In the satisfaction video you can see that Mick is indeed irritated. With his arm he counts for Keith. Then some looks between Keith and Ronnie. At first also a bit irritated and then ronnie starts laughing, which is nice to Keith, that must have had a rough night. Ronnie knows what it's like to be critisized I guess.

Let's not be too hard on Keith for having a bad night. I'm sure that now the stones are getting old, the pressure is also building up for them. He was probably just very nervous and took a couple of drinks to mellow down. I think he'll be fine in a couple of shows.

Just watched the clips, Keiths playing is truly embarrassing. If it's due to booze, it's an offense to the audience and his bandmates.
If it's due to illness and age we have to worry. Sad.
Let's hope he just had a bad night.
But if a musician realizes that he's going to have a bad night he should take back a step and not play to much. Unless you're the bass player;-)

So he played the opening riff of SMU alright? Wow!

Let's be honest, Keith's riffs are great, fantastic, a league of their own - but very easy to play. More so on the open tunings he uses.
SMU, BS, PIB, Satisfaction, THTW, whatever - those are so easy to play, if he can't play them anymore it is really, really bad. If you're as good a guitar player as Keith soloing on Sympathy should be the easiest thing in the world. I think it's harder to screw up that one than not to.

Imagine him having to play "Message in A Bottle" every night...

1. Start Me Up - WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
2. Shattered - not a warhorse at all
3. Rough Justice – killer song
4. Rocks Off - not a warhorse
5. Heartbreaker – Olympia version is cool.
6. Some Girls – great surprise
7. Waiting On A Friend - AWESOME
8. Can't You Hear Me Knocking – Feel lucky to have this
9. Tumbling Dice –WAR HORSE (Not quite, but almost).
10. I'll Go Crazy - Great choice.
--- Introductions
11. I Wanna Hold You (Keith) – Was great in 1998
12. Slipping Away (Keith) – The rocker was played right before this. Wanna Hold You is a rocker.
13. It's Only Rock'n Roll (to B-stage) –WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
14. It's All Over Now (B-stage) - Fantastic.
15. Satisfaction (B-stage) WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
16. Honky Tonk Women (to main stage) WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
17. Paint It Black – Not a warhorse at all
18. Jumping Jack Flash WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
19. Brown Sugar –WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).
20. Sympathy For The Devil (encore) WAR HORSE (And a great one it is).

Tumbling Dice not quite a warhorse????It's one of the biggest warhorses they have. It's a much bigger warhorse than Sympathy.

No it ain't. It's been played a lot yes, but it's only a semi-warhorse, as with Gimme Shelter, in my book.

You must be joking.Tumbling Dice has been played at nearly every show since it was released in 1972.The only times I recall it being rested were a handful of '76 shows and one ABB show in Albany '05.

Yeah, of course you're right. And probably nobody refrained from posting anything because he or she feared to be fiercely attacked by others.
At least I hope that is the case.

The warhorses:
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
Sympathy For The Devil
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
It's Only Rock 'n Roll
Start Me Up

Some semi-warhorses:
Tumbling Dice
Gimme Shelter
Street Fighting Man
You Can't Always Get What You Want

The reason people get confused about what is, and what is not, a warhorse is simply because after the breakthrough of the internet, more people have been able to voice their opinion about setlists (And other stuff too of course). The fan community is not as local as it was back in the day. Now it's a small world where everybody can find a community that shares the same interests as yourself.
If you told a Rolling Stones fan in 1980 that the show he just attended would be available to him in a couple of days, he would simply laugh in your face. It would be unheard of back then. Now it's an everyday thing. A show is played and we get the songs posted up here within minutes. Moreover we get the shows as bootlegs as easy as 1, 2, 3.
Back to the point: More people get tired of hearing the same songs every night. If you went to 3 shows in 1976, and basically got the same songs, you wouldn't have complained much. Now you do. Why? Simple: When you see a song database for a certain tour you think: "CRIKEY! Why do they play Tumbling Dice at EVERY effin' show"? There is one thing that people tend to forget though: Looking at a setlist is NOT in any way the same as actually being at the show. Yes, Tumbling Dice is played very often. Sympathy For The Devil and a few handfuls of others too. What I don't understand is how some people complain about a show they haven't seen? They've seen it on paper yes, but that's about it. How can one complain over a show they have only seen on paper?

Can we cut the warhorse crap and get back to topic please? People logging on only to say Some Girls is nice but played a zillion times on the No Security tour, can only be pleased with waterbuffalos up their arses.

Better check the VTM site for (another) 2 min. coverage fo yesterday's show!

War Horses are the same songs played since they came out and that is and inculdes Tumbling Dice.

I know it's been played at everysingleshow I'VE seen since 1989 after almost 20 shows along with
Satisfaction
JJF
Brown Sugar
Start Me Up
Honky Tonk Women

At least i got a couple of breaks without Satisfaction Sympathy Got me Rocking and IORR which is rare
but TD has been as constant at my RS shows as the band themselves
IMVHO....

I never miss hearing that song!!!

Thanks for the link, Limbo!
They mention towards the end that there is also some critical things to say - about Keith and what was the other thing? About unknown songs?

The videolink I just posted has people telling exactly what they want to hear:

"They played too many new songs" and "We, the gereral public mostly want to hear the older songs, you can tell by the reation when they start one". Obviously people don't know Haertbreaker is old, they just don't know it. Please give the big majority of the 33.000 crowd at least half the show. It's nothing more than consumer friendly.

Now PLEASE start a new thread on the definition of warhorses. It doesn't belong here.
PLEASE.

Thank you.

what a bunch of lazy, inert pricks. how hard is to enjoy a song that youve - GASP - never heard before?

Regarding the setlist, anyone can criticise it: if they are new songs, most of the audience does not know it, if they keep playing the same song, they're charged with the fact that they don't innovate at all...

Of course he would, since they did´nt play any shows in 1980.

This is ludacris.I'm not (yet) complaining about the show.I'm saying that Tumbling Dice is a warhorse,a bigger warhorse than Sympathy and, yes,it is.The internet has nothing to do with it.Tumbling Dice has only ever been rested once, for around half of one (European) tour over thirty years ago. That has been about it.Sympathy For The Devil was not played for the first half of the 1994 tour among quite a few other extended periods of time that it wasn't played.
