Instead of complain and moan over that this may be their last tour, can´t you just be grateful that they didn´t quit for good 20 years ago? Some people never gets satisfied...

I certainly don't have any inside info,or follow the business side of the Stones as close as other people. But I think the Stones have done pretty well in recent years with Cohl having a large hand in their affairs...Perhaps tehy politely kicked the good prince to the curb in order to get a better deal elsewhere. Even if they say he will not be replaced. I also think that tehy wouldn't call it quits without announcing an official farewell tour. Since they've never done so before,it would'nt be a stretch to have them do a farewell tour and no I don't think the ABB tour was the farewell tour.

The management was shifted away from Prince Rupert a couple years ago, so this is more of a formal announcement- not sure why its being announced now? When it happened, it was kind of a big deal internally for a few people, some even resigned, and the result was the shift toward the style of Michael Cohl we have $een.

This is old news now.

Some may think that the Stones are wrapping up, but fact is after 40+ years this is now running business nothing more nothing less. It's like a clockwork. They have every person and business policy in place. They don't need any more advices. Time to do what they are best at. More records. More shows. Whenever they need to do such. Prince Rupert was great to have when the times they were a'changing but now they are simply doing what they are good at. Never change a winning team. And you do not need a business advisor for doing that.

The Stones ain't wrappin' it up - Not yet.
Prince Rupert zu Loewenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg wasn't agreeing to ticket prices, setlists and advertisement plans for the upcoming leg of the bigger bang tour - thats all, but enough to disagree about.......

that's just - IMO!

Nice one Gazza, you're the only one so far that has made the intelligent observation that it may well be PRL himself that wants to pack it in. I mean, hitting 85, financially secure for the rest of his life, a fantastic career to be proud of... He has nothing more to prove. I wouldn't want to still be working when I'm 85, unless it's as a musician!

Yep. Cant really imagine why a fabulously wealthy man at that advanced age doesnt want to put his feet up - but then I suppose thats what makes these people very successful while tossers like us arent. Drive and ambition.

I think after the next tour that was it. It's over then.

Rolling Stones have always insisted they would never announce a farewell tour.

I think Prince Rupert is just a very old man - perhaps he's sick, had a small stroke, whatever.

Anyways - Stones have always had a policy of not replacing people. When Les Perrin stepped down, he was not replaced and that did not spell the end of the Stones. In fact it looked pretty much like this - a sick Les Perrin gradually took less and less responsibility but was never ousted as such.

When they split with Allen Klein (fancy that - I wanted to check Klein's age - 75 - and found out his birthday is the 18th. of December - never knew that??), they never appointed a new manager, instead hiring people for different aspects - such as Prince Rupert for the financial side of things and Cohl for the touring.

And each member of the Stones took on their own managers (Jane Rose for Keef e.g.)

And on the Stones stopping - I would not bet on it!!

If Keith, Mick or Charlie should die - or otherwise be incapacitated - then yes.

And the IF is a big IF - a year ago Keith looked at death's door - now we see him looking healthier than he has in the last 10 years. Even put on a little weight.

But I must admit - I don't see them in a big-around-the-world-tour in five years time. But I've been wrong before!

And as read in an article about them - "The Rolling Stones defy logic" ;-)

I think it was after the Licks Tour that it was announced that Michael Cohl would replace Prince Rupert. The reason being that Loewenstein didn't want to continue because of his age. It could mean that he thinks he's too old, and that he is being replaced by another guy, namely Cohl. It's not the end of the world.

>> The significance of the move will not be lost on those who compile rich lists <<

glad to hear it - i cheerfully admit that the more i ponder it, the more lost on me it gets.
what is the purpose of this announcement, anyway? it's not that the good Prince Rupert is retiring,
or (despite the headline) that the Stones are "parting ways" with him, so ... what is it for?
were financial circles buzzing with rumours that needed setting straight, or ... ???

and as long as i'm at it: what's with that goofy account of how they lost the rights to their early catalogue??
"a disastrous decision to sell their catalogue of 1960s hits.... The quickie sale was handled by then manager Allen Klein" -
that's a bit ... euphemistic!

It's a clean end to a story.

no one is angry, no one has died - just ending a management engagement due to age and maybe health issues.

...and, he won't be botherd with letters and correspondence anymore.

"ah, this is another one for Cohl - get this to Cohl, luv.

That gives the tour a really farewell caracter. It seems to be a sad goodbye...

I think the move is intended to save the Stones alot of $$$. I also agree that at 85, if they needed financial help, it would make sense to hire, as an advisor, a younger man. Everyone wants to put a negative spin on everything HELLO! The Rolling Stones are ON TOUR! They are all in their 60's ( is Ronnie 60 this year?) and still performing and that is a huge POSITIVE!

Keith is also closing the Raindrop Services office in NYC. Jane will still handle Keith's affairs, but long time employees have been told to find new jobs.

Cardinals do get to vote for a new Pope once they hit 80.

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
