Remove warhorses

Rehearsals!!!!!Thats hope this means we are going to get a different set list.It really is time to axe some of those flogged to death warhorses. They must be sick of playing them, and fans who have seen countless shows get pissed of with more of the same.

London has already had the typical warhorse set last year.So they need something a bit different.

I guess things won't change that drastically even for O2.

Now I'm wondering...

Was it your goal to be the first one to start a Euro 07 anti warhorse-thread, or, coulnd't you resist the temptation of waiting for another one to be the first? (wink wink smile!)

I like the mixture, the Stones do since the internet-era.
I guess for those, who already saw Europeen shows in 2006 there will be enough songs they didn't play last year. And please don't forget: the best atmosphere at a Rolling Stones show is ALWAYS after Keith's set, so by the time, they do all these warhorses.

Oh, no! It isn`t! That`s the time when all those brainless stoopid fans get their fill!!! I`m not among them! I prefer the INTERESTING part of the show, which always is the first half of it.

LoFL: actually it seems way more "brainless stoopid" not to enjoy the hell out of the whole show -
that's what it's for.

you might be heading for a wrong conclusion...

The Stones need to rehearse, just like any other band, even if they have played their songs for the umptenth time.

A rehearsal is a preparatory event in music and theatre (and in other contexts) that is performed before the official public performance, as a form of practice, and to ensure that all details of the performance are adequate for professional presentation.

I'll tell you that it's not the fans' fault.Do you expect the fans to skip tours altogether to avoid getting pissed off?You could have gone to just one or two shows per tour and it adds up to countless shows after all these years\tours.There's no reason why they should not deliver more of the "fresh" material they frequently refer to.There's nothing wrong with making different tours in different years reasonably different like they used to do.

Of course, keep playing the same 10 songs at almost every single show for another decade or two.Good idea. The world hasn't had enough of these songs.Don't dream of switching Honkey Tonk Women for Soul Survivor for a short two month period.Heaven forbid.

The majority of people going to see the Stones in a Stadium only see one show a tour and they want to hear the hits so don't expect the warhorses to go away thats just the way it is.

Casual fans make up a large percent of the concert goers, so they are going to get warhorses. I'd like more obscure songs, too, but the facts are that we are a small percent of the audiance and the rest want to hear Satisfaction, etc. Maybe they'd like the other songs too, but they most likely would be upset if they don't play at least a couple warhourses.

I didn't mean that casual fans have never seen the Stones, just that they don't see them as much as us, maybe 1 show a tour.

About 90% (if not more) of everyone around me, here in the Netherlands; one of the most visited countries in the world...

__________ thats close to 14 million people....

Re: Remove warhorses

What I meant, is the people who DID NOT yet see them, ie about 90% of the people around me. I'm not saying, or suggesting that this counts for NL as a whole... I can imagine that probably 50% of the 40-50-60 year old have seen them once. Still, even here in NL there is enough market potential for a warhorse show, more than anything else. Whether you or me or anyone hope for a warhorse free show or not: it's no valid reason to talk nonsense... well, only if it where for the sake of the argument of course, wich is fine with me.

I want to add that i'm not denying the right to talk nonsense, that would expell myself too :-)

>> You could have gone to just one or two shows per tour and it adds up to countless shows after all these years\tours <<

smile: no it doesn't. that would be quite a countable number of shows.
and it is plain strange if someone is choosing to attend multiple performances of a band that just pisses them off.
sure, you can do it if you want to, but it doesn't obligate the band to take responsibility for your choice.

>> Do you expect the fans to skip tours altogether <<

why not, if going to the shows doesn't give them any joy?
smile: it's funny if that seems unthinkable to you. being a fan isn't like being in the army;
you're free to stay home if you don't like the shows.

meanwhile, i strongly feel iorrians need to stop being so damn predictable with the setlist whining -
i mean how many renditions of "i go to more shows than i can enjoy" does the world need??
that one's never really worked anyway, can't see at all why it gets played all the time
when so many gems of complaints are rarely or never aired! come on, moaners: shake it up!

2 tickets, E100 a piece; let's say 50% of a membership: total amount of 240 euro. That is a nice price to spend a night with someone you like, in a restaurant, eat and drink whatever you want... Come home as happy as you would do from a Stones-show, and maybe even happier... Only one rule: do not choose the courses you always do, it get's boring after a while... ;-)

Well, you can count as high as you want but,I think you see where I'm coming from.

Nobody is saying that everything the band does pisses them off but, certain things do piss fans off and yes,the band is should take some responsibility to better entertain their audience. That goes back to the old argument of how many people want to hear this and how many people want to hear that. You can be damn sure that there are enough people who want to hear a show low on or without warhorses to justify at the very least one such arena show or multiple theater/club shows per tour.

It's not as if the whole show doesn't "give me joy",only certain parts that are always there are the problem.Personally,I pay the few hundred dollars mainly for about a third of the concert that I know I will enjoy. The rest of it pisses me off.I'm sorry but, that's the way it usually is for me and others. How many others?Nobody knows the exact #.Also, for example,if I stayed home last fall,I would have missed Loving Cup,Sway,She Was Hot,Connection,Under My Thumb, and Little T & A.I'm glad I went but,I would've liked to have gotten some more.

Re: Remove warhorses

Totally removing the warhorses will not work, because the buyers of the priciest tickets, a mixture of business types and socialites, who are not fans of the music of the Rolling Stones per se, but fans of events in general, don't know obscure tracks and might cause bad publicity if they don't like the concert. Having to play the same songs over and over is probably the downside of the hype. But these people pay well.

>> I think you see where I'm coming from. <<

not really! but anyway, since we've both been around iorr for a while, we know what comes next:
whichever "warhorse" you say they should leave out, someone else will protest that that's THE ONE they want every time.
someone else will bemoan the fact that Gimmie Shelter and SFM haven't been staples this tour,
but of course if they were part of the standard ABB setlist people would be griping about that as well.
when they add a surprise at some show, there are people who will gripe if they weren't there ("unfair!"),
people who complain if they keep the surprise and people who complain if they don't.
and the whole time another sector of fans will be pointing out steadily that it's HOW they play that counts,
and that if you're tired of a great raunchy kickass Brown Sugar, you are tired of life.

>> I'm not the professional world famous entertainer. <<

smile: no, but you're a world-famous iorr poster. and the moaning is mighty predictable.
