Stones Bigger Bang tour live CD
Date: May 20, 2007 18:58

Now that the live DVD is about to be released next month, does anyone know when a live CD from ABB will follow? Or is it also going to be included in the DVD package?

My guess would be 2008 after they've sold as many copies of The Biggest Bang and Shine a Light on DVD as possible.

Lets hope for She's So Cold, She Was Hot, Sway, As Tears Go By & 3-4 ABB tunes. Don't need 5 warhorses for the umpteenth time. MEZ

What about Sweet Virginia?...I don't think that's ever been on an official live album.

Good point. I also would actually rather see a live CD without any warhorses. There was definitely a lot of good older material to be pulled from this tour.

Depends whether or not you think "Stripped" is a bona fide live album ;-)

That's right. I forgot about Stripped..........But other than that,I don't think so.....Either way,I agree no one is intersted in another live album full of warhorses.

The last time they tried a live album with almost no warhorses and an emphasis on new material and obscure material was with NO SECURITY. Sales results were lower than live albums with warhorses. The best we can hope for is another LIVE LICKS type 2 disc set. Of course, there is no official word on a live album now. Its THE BIGGEST BANG and the Beacon concert film and nothing else, but I can't imagine there won't be an official live album before the end of next year. Its easy money.

I thought Live Licks would have convinced everyone that there is not much need or interest in another official live album. If there HAS to be one, I guess a warhorse-free release is the way to go, but then it wouldn't really have much value as a tour souvenir, since it wouldn't be representative of a show anyone actually saw; and aside from its value as a tour souvenir, is there any conceivable reason anyone could have for wanting another live Stones album?

I thought Mick (in the interveiw for the upcoming Euro tour) that there would be no live CD, just a DVD.

Rocky Dijon is right, Stripped wasn't really a live album and No Security - with mostly recent material or stuff never on a live set - stiffed sales wise. Each live album sells less than its predecessor. Partly that's the Stones fault, but it's also the market. Four Flix sold a lot, on the other hand. Let's hope for a good mix (sound mix)...

There's really no need for a live album from this tour. I suppose the same could have been said for the last few live albums though.

yes. There was certainly no need at all for the last one.

As long as Stones live albums are more or less missed opportunities, as long there is no need for another one.

A 1972 live album, had it been released in 1972, would have eliminated the need for any subsequent live albums.

The need, possibly....but the desire? Well, it always depends on the choice of material and the quality of the performance! I for one am greedy enough to wish at least one great official live document from 1973, 1975/76, 1978, 1981/82 for my Stones collection.

.........of all albums/CD's the Stones have ever put out, I can't ever remember being more disappointed by them than after having bought LIVE LICKS.....I accept responsibility for buying it, but it was a load of crap and a rip off. Four Flicks DVD on the other hand was awesome!

Live '72 would have surpassed Ya Ya's as an utterly definitive document of the Rolling Stones in concert. No subsequent live album would have come close, so there would have been no point in releasing anymore.

Whether they issued a 1972 live set or not, the band has evolved, or changed if you prefer, enough to warrant carefully produced - maybe as vault jobs - live sets from most tours, but where say the Dead can issue dozens of live albums snapped up like the holy grail by fans (and sorry, even though they're a good band their improvisations ain't making Coltrane lose any sleep) because their vault material is curated with sensitivity by passionate non band members. The Stones boost the audience noise, edit songs, and usually try to make live albums tour souveniers - an excercise in futility. Which is why "Stripped" is the best selling of any from the past 20 years. I still think No Security's sales were hurt by the ugly cover art, not that the mushy mix helped much. The best live Stones has been thrown away - "Whip" on Sucking in the 70s, the various '95 - 98 single sides.

If there will be seven hours of stuff, there will be much space for all kinds of material: docu, warhorses, ABB songs, rarely played ones, never live-played songs and songs, they plaxed never before 2005 (the covers).

Jagger was asked in a 1999 interview about disappointing sales for NO SECURITY and was quick to respond that Aerosmith's live album didn't sell well either. He stated the live album was dead and that NO SECURITY would be the last one. Of course, LIVE LICKS proved him wrong. When asked about a live album at the European tour press conference a few months ago, he said "we'll stick with the DVD set for now." To my mind, that just means live CD next year once everyone has bought the DVD just like the last time around.

I actually hope they break with tradition and DON'T release a live album this time out.

that's the DVD - the thread's about a theoretical CD.
