You made me think with your post Hound Dog...
I remember seeing the 81 tour in Hartford CT, and after the show, my friends and I all said in agreement "That sucked!"
Keeping in mind we were High School teenagers and were in full protest against "DISCO"... "Miss You" & "Emotional Rescue" were considered as Stones blasphemy by us back then... Also, the tempo seemed quite rushed for most songs and the set was unleashed in a machine-gun fire method.
I do remember enjoying Time is on my side, Let it Bleed and YCAGWYW but the rest of the show wasn't so great to us at the time.
I think we were hoping for a setlist that turned up on the Steel Wheels tour but of course, didn't have it.
It was simply a case of our expectation and perception not matching the reality of that particular time.
I remember Keef lying down on Charlie's drum rise and Mick was kicking him in the arse to get up and play. At the time, I didn't feel Keef was giving me my $15 worth but now I think of it as a "precious moment".
I also remember the buzz about 1981-82 most likely being "their last tour" and that they were "old" back then...
Now, I wish I could go back in time and attend that show again as it was what is was and it was purely reflective of the era back then when fast paced punk and new wave styles were prominent.
Looking back, I don't think it sucked at all, I think it was pretty cool.
