I Just heard Patti Smith's cover of Gimme Shelter from her new album TWELVE. I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard it, and what the general concensus is on her version.

She performed it at her hall of fame induction. I thought it was pretty bad.

The cd versionis great. It's gritty and very much in the spirit of the song. We know she is a fan and she does right by the song.

I saw it at the RRHall of Fame too. I thought it was the worst!

Probably the weakest track on her album

...............oh please...........Smith just shreds it........it's tense, biting, aggressive, pitch perfect.....the best cut on the CD.........it's her centerpiece on the disc and her humble hommage to a great song.....she did it great justice!

If you buy this disk at Target you get a bonus track: "Everybody Hurts".

Not THAT bad - but listen to the 1971 version done by DETROIT, featuring Mitch 'Foghorn' Ryder...

First time out liked the music but not her singing. (I say that as a fan.) But I've got used to it and yep, I like this a lot.

Reckon she hasnt decide whether she want to be hi-fi
or deconstruct it.

Here is a hi-fi, Hungarian interpretation/cover

Will definately watch Later With Jools Holland if Patti Smith is going to be one - I don't normally watch that show at all - too dull and safe for my liking.

Anyone heard Hawkwind doing Gimme Shelter - pretty good.
