Well at least 3 of their scores were English! They fielded 5 English last night. Thats probably more than Chelsea. I just detest them. They win everything through money and consistency, but too often they just don't entertain. I think the title is Uniteds, despite the fluke loss to Portsmouth

United have a youth structure which has ensured that their roots will remain as an English club - even now, a sizeable amount of the first team squad have come through their youth system. There's more continuity about their team.

Chelsea by contrast have tended to "import" their squad.

they're a good side and I'm pleased for them that they won last night, but United are simply a more entertaining side. For all the titles Ferguson has won over the last 14 years, if they pip Chelsea's bilionaire-backed team to the championship this season, this will be his best achievement to date

Mun U have spent nearly as much as Chelski.. Rooney, Ferdinand, Tranaldo,Saha. The youth players you talk about are getting on now and won't be there in a couple years so they will be BUYING foriegn imports. I wasn't talking about that anyway. Man U are about as Mancunian as you Gazza! That's not an insult, just a fact!

Also, they SHOULD be entertaining with the money he's spent (Ferguson)..

Re: Man U v Roma

anyone who believes Man Ure haven't spent their way to success is sadly deluded

they've spent FORTUNES just like Chelsea

Arsenal. whilst completely full of foreigners and ruining English football, at least buy the majority for quite cheap and then turn them into stars

Liverpool have also spent big over the years. sadly for them with little success in the league where it matters

Never suggested or implied they havent spent a fortune. Just emphasising that they do at least have a 'core' to their side down the years which has come through the ranks - which hasnt really been the case with Chelsea.

Plus the players they have signed have tended to be there for longer, so theres a bit more continuity.

Not that it matters a shit to me, either way, as I'm not a diehard fan anyway..nor do I have any axe to grind against any other club

To a degree, yes. Even though I dont live in England, I do think that the English national team (and the other UK teams as a whole) has suffered because of the proliferation of so many foreign players. Might be nice for the armchair fans, but its not a good thing that there are so few domestic players playing Premiership football.

The players you did mention cost the same as Chelsea use every season. Utd have bought this players over four year.Chelsea just use money and don`t earn money. The next you are gonna say is that Utd have 76000 people in each match and Chelsea only got 40000 people on each match. My answers to that is that Chelsea`s tickets are 100% more expencive than a Utd-ticket.
Also there is much more people from Great Britain and Ireland In Utd than Chelsea so you Can`t compare this two clubs.

Well, Utd have a more balanced thread between buying and selling. This season they bought Carrick and sold Nistelrooy. And that`s it. And they didn`t buy Giggs,Scholes,Butt, G.Neville,P.Neville,Beckham etc. And they didn`t pay more than 1 million Pounds for Cantona and Scmeichel.

But I agree that the rich clubs destroy for others and their national teams

I share this feeling, because it's very much the same here in Italy. For instance, the team which is going to win Serie A, Inter, barely engages one or max two italian players. That's the main reason I dislike that team so much, as well as Arsenal as far as the Premiership is concerned. Manchester United performs a much better policy than those teams, just like Milan or Roma (regardless of yesterday's match) in Italy.

Without the Ladyboy Ronaldo Man U wouldn't be in the position they are in right now. If they win the Prem League it will because of him. I agree that EVERY team should be limited to 3 maybe 4 foreign imports and at least 3 players that have come through that teams youth system. Without this then football is a dead sport. In England only Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool have any chance of becoming champions.. BORING! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

maybe ladyboys should be compulsory acquistions then!

even worse, for the forseeable future its hard to even see Liverpool or Arsenal catching up - yet its only three years ago that Arsenal were literally unbeatable.

Nice to see someone believing in something. Ajax Amsterdam also has a kick-ass youth division. As far as I know it's one of the best talent factories in the world (Along with the beach of Copacabana of course).
Is Man. Utd. your fave team (Thought it was Glasgow Rangers for you)? If yes I have a question:
What did you think of the Man. Utd. song by Status Quo?

Correct! It seems the 'armchair' fan is the most important thing. Money, money, money! Like I said before, football is dead! Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Another bad thing about all the foreigners in the squads:
Each country's playing style is now the same everywhere. I remember back when English football was all long balls forward (Not that kind of balls). Italy was the masters of technique and Germany was right after the book. All that has gone away. Too bad.

without a grass roots base, the game will always suffer in the long term. It's easy (and understandable) to be attracted to the appeal and excitement of the Chmapions League, but football is more than just a super-rich elite of 10-20 clubs in four or five countries

Ajax

I've always had a lot of time for clubs like Ajax for those kind of reasons.

The only club I support are Linfield, my local team in Belfast. However, like many people I would have a favourite team in England and Scotland too. Man Utd and Rangers - but both on a lesser degree of fanaticism as I'm not and wouldnt claim to be a 'supporter' as I dont physically go and watch them or contribute financially. I cant really relate too emotionally to a team I only watch on TV, although obviously I can still appreciate and enjoy it.

Football songs in general are cheesy nonsense, as are Status Quo. I've thankfully never heard this. Just the thought of it makes me shudder!
