"This is one of Keith's most quotable and infamous lines ever. This one will outlive him, despite the denials and even if its totally untrue. The public love urban myths - this one is even better than the blood change story and up there with the Mars Bar one." (Gazza)

Yeah, this is also up there with Lennon's "Now we're bigger than Jesus"
(or however his word fell)... Just hopin' this will be if but slightly
easier to adjust...

Exactly Gazza. He has become little more than a walking punchline. I have a feeling we're in for some more Unintentional Comdey from Mr. Richards this summer!

Then Mick will make all forgotten with a stellar album this fall.

This is pretty lame as far as damage control, imo.

Jagger, a stellar album?.....I don't think so.

You know they think they've found the tomb of Jesus now .....

Maybe Keef could snort him?

Be the best of John and Keef ....

Keith made a joke ...
but I think the magazine editors turned his joke into a joke on him

I don't think Keith realized that in this day of instant information and if it bleeds it leads type of journalism this would be a big deal. God forbid anybody talk about the British hostages being released or the war in Iraq or a million other semi-important stories. I heard Don Imus this morning say Keith Richards ought to be put to sleep. This from a guy who already looks like a walking corpse himself. By the end of the week, the media will find a story about a dog with 2 heads or Rosie O'Donnell will say something else stupid and they will forget about Keith.

well...she WOULD say that, wouldnt she?

The interview was leaked on the 3rd April and published on the 4th. I doubt it was conducted as recently as two days earlier.

Keith may have said it in jest, but the 'April fool' angle (if thats what she said, I havent seen a quote saying exactly that) doesnt hold up.

What are they Cheap Trick? They already set a new record and grossed over 400 million bucks. They need publicity for the upcoming leg of the tour?

Not a publicity stunt- just Keith trying to say something outrageous.

I'd really be surprised if Keith gives the coming tour many thoughts. Let alone try to draw publicity through a magazine that nobody, who is a potential ticket buyer after the first week of sales, reads. That's a stretch too far.

If he knew this would have happened, media-wise, he did it just to stir the pot, not with publicity for the tour in his mind. (But I doubt he knew or gave it a thought.)

Anyway, aside from the fear I have that people who have never seen him play find him a ridiculous clown, AND the hypocrisy in the reactions, I really don't care.

Jelle

Edit: And somewhere, I have to admit that I think it is touching that someone cares so little about what anyone thinks, says or does. Even to the extend that it drives Mick, and many fans crazy with a mixture of shame and irritation. It is who have to learn to live with him. Sometimes he makes it clear that he will never dance to our tune. (If you allow me to invent a metaphore). Even if it harms his own band, which he, in the end, will probably regret, facing Mick and Charlie.

No reason for Mick to comment publicly. Like most celebrities, he only does interviews when he has something to promote.

the unprecented haste of the rs.com statement is proof enough that the Stones organisation see this as something of a faux pas

Folks in the UK should have a look in the Daily Mail.
There's a whole page article about Keith from Ray Connolly, which draws on a few well known "stories", but paints an affectionate picture of keith as "wily" and "truly odd english eccentic".

Alongside the article is a Mac cartoon with an old man in a hospital bed saying to his Stones T shirt wearing son "I've got some bad news son...I've asked to be buried"

This one?

A year ago the crowd waved blow-up coconut trees around -- I wonder what they'll inflate this time... tongue sticking out smiley

BTW: Thanks Keith for sticking your neck (& nose) out. We all needed a good laugh and I'm sure the gullible reporter will be constantly reminded about this for a long time to come. See you all on the tour! grinning smiley
