Indeed, it was a great night. A real nice bunch of London R'B musicians. Maybe there were not all super stars. Maybe some had not a killer look, neither a big ego. But it was even better. We had the privilege to see a dozen of semi-pro bands – either members, mates, heirs, siblings, ex, you name it, of the greatest groups (The Stones, The Faces, The Who, The Yardbirds…) – that reunited to pay a wholehearted respect to their friend.

R. Wood, who didn't want to steal the show, arrived in a grey Mercedes around 9 PM. He looked frailly, but stronger on the stage. As he is used too, he is the only guitar player so often raising his two hands…

Some highlights:- Some fantastic covers : Led Zeppelin "Rock and Roll" song, featuring Peter French from Leaf Hound (a very convincing, re-born band) of lead vocals, four guitar players including a brilliant young, left-handed player, Luke Rayner (Leaf Hound), Ray Majors (Yardbirds, Mott the Hoople), Don Craine (The Downliner Sect) and John Idan (Yardbirds), and two drummers, Kenney Jones, and Mick Avory; "Hoochie coochie man" cover, amazing, "Hot legs" cover, very entertaining
- a nice "Kansas City", with a R. Wood superb, à la Faces raw solo (BTW, look at [www.iorr.org])
- a great performance by Hogg – the college guitar boy on the left was amazing, but I don't think it was Jesse Wood – I think J. Wood was on the bass

There would be much more to say, but there were so many groups I am a bit lost, I have to double check the pictures on the programme to make no mistakes. There were about forty or fifty performers.

Special thanks to paulywaul: you gave me a fantastic insight of Richmond. I discovered the famous Station hotel is named after the equally notorious Richmond Station that faces the first. Now the Edward (ex Station Hotel) features salsa dance class on Wednesday…

Here are some pages of the programme.

A pleasure, I'm only sorry I didn't meet you ... but then I was kinda busy down the front somewhere, losing my mind with delirious excitement and taking the occasional photo when my brain worked ... intermittently !!

Art Wood & the Eel-Pie Allstarts - Midnight Special

That's a terrible howler to have in the first line of the Memories of Art.

Still, I'm glad it was a good night and that no-one died!

You might have to scrape me off the floor at the end of the tour, but it'll be really good scrapings. - Mick Jagger

Many thanks for all the fantastic pictures and the programme pages. Not only did I forget my own camera, but I left my programme on a chair while I was down the front, and by the end of the night of course it was GONE.

Note the look of apprehension on Kenney Jones's face in his last picture - this was either just before or just after the second Plastergate Incident. Have a look at the ceiling above the T in Art's poster - in the picture of Hogg it is still intact, but in later shots you can see the scar where the plaster came from.

Mick Avory is wearing that "loud but never square" shirt to sing "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" with all the crowd joining in.

I feel so lucky to live here in Twickenham, and to be within range of so much great music. The Eel Pie Club get involved in providing music for a lot of local events (like the Twickenham Music Day - thanks for the YouTube link, Stargroves!) and some of the songs on Sunday brought back happy memories of other performances - the Downliners on a burning hot day at last year's Strawberry Hill Music Day - Ray Majors singing All The Young Dudes as the closing number at the Teddington River Festival, on an open-air stage by Teddington Lock, on a beautiful evening with the passing boats on the Thames stopping to listen - Tom Nolan's band at the White Cross on Richmond riverside - and of course all the various line-ups of Art Wood's All Stars with Art singing Big Boss Man, or Hoochie Coochie Man, or Midnight Special ...

After the extravaganza the other night, the following occured to me -

I saw Art Wood with his band perform at the Eel Pie Club a few times
I have seen Ronnie on numerous occasions in numerous venues, of course!
I went to see the Leah Wood Group play at the Eel Pie Club
On Sunday, I saw Jesse Wood performing with Hogg

A family that has music in its blood......

got to get this said, for the record: among other brilliant highlights, Ali MacKenzie impressed the hell out of me,
as did the drummer Chris Hunt (who appeared with three different formations on sunday).

I wonder if Mathijs is going to put him down? You know. "He can't play anymore so why is he doing tributes." I love Ronnie no matter what!!!

Please do not get personal here on IORR. It should be possible to talk about music, songs, bands and performances without challenging individuals on their opinions. Thanks!

Not sure if it was already said that Pete French was also formerly of Atomic Rooster. He´s TERRIFIC!!

I forgot to say earlier that Jane Rose was next to us down at the front - as usual snapping away with her various cameras and zoom lenses all night.

The two drummers on The 'Art Wood All Stars' set were: Mick Avory (From The Kinks and Art Wood's All Stars) and Mark Freeman (From Art Wood's All Stars). Mark also played drums earlier with Art's close friend,Dudley & The Deputies and played 'Skiffle Board' wearing a Top Hat in the finale 'Midnight Special'

S**t ... I spent the entire evening being really rude to her, everytime she stuck that bloody zoom lens of hers next to my ear as she was trying to get a shot I either trod dangerously near her toes or else gave her a less than subtle nudge to make her back off !

O well, guess I'll be off her and Keith's Xmas card list !

Yes, the double-drummer thing. It was not with Kenney Jones, my mistake.

btw, Artwoods played 5 numbers not 4 - there was a jam that I don't know the name of before Kansas City than Got My Mojo Working, Hoochie Coochie Man and at the end High Heeled Sneakers.

lol @ Pauly..
but you're right, she was a pain in the ass, all night,
pushing and shoving her way through the crowds all night,
with her ridiculously large, tele-photo lenses.

Seen a couple of small reviews with photos in the Twickenham times and the local Informer papers.Nice pix of Ronnie raising his glass at end of his performance, but none of the pix match up to Pauls superb shots.Saw Mark Freeman who played drums on the show last night at local pub where he was playing and he said he was still buzzing days after gig and he also seen Pauls pix on IORR.He was a real nice friendly guy.

on blistering form- though Roger was struggling towards
the end of the show, from the after-effects of his viral infection and jetlag.
