A day?

Been there a few times myself. To do it justice I'd say you need more like a week.........

Love the place. I'm a proud "Ami du Louvre" and it is so nice just to go there with no hurry and just get to see an specific work of art.

The Louvre is, since about 1999 or 2000, the biggest museum in the world (The Hermitage being now second) and they say, don't really know if its true, that you need about 8 hours a day during 8 months to really get to see everything in detail.

Thanks for the art, Rockman and CindyC. Like WOW!

Re Elmo going to Louvre, you MUST. Also Musee D'Orsay. Like walking through a dream. A trip to Paris to see art is worth starving for.

To me, great art is like the Stones -- all about emotion.

Erik,

You must of been blasting your Cheap Trick "Live at Budakhon" album with your bedroom window open.

His SR - you got me mixed up with another posted, I didn't post any art. But like you, I LOVE Musee D'Orsay. I used to go there all the time. Impressionist art is sort of looked down upon as being too mainstream, but to those people is say poo-poo. To me, art is about beauty, and nothing beats an Nympheas or Danse a la Ville, or the Manet with the glass vase (I think that one was returned as it was taken during the Holocaust).

I also love looking at all those beautiful armoires where you can't tell if it's mirror or glass, and the reproduction of the opera house.

Meanwhile back on the Buffalo art scene, the public is in a huge debate over our local Albright-Knox Gallery decision to deaccession fire sale of some antiquities. The auction is this coming Tuesday at Sotheby's in NYC. They are anticipating a return of about 15 million dollars.

The reason is so that they can increase their endowment for its core mission of acquiring and exhibiting modern and contemporary art. Lawsuits have been filed and lots of passion exists.

I just can't wait to get over there to see that beautiful inverted 2 bay porcelin kitchen sink stuck in a wall. That is soooooooo interesting. Total junk!

Long live antiquities!!!! and the Renaissance period.

Thanks to all. I thought there would be some art lovers out there. Even if you're not, and you're in the Atlanta area (or Paris), check this out.

Have been there quite a few times; but no big art lover am I.
In 84 or 85 I saw the most beautiful woman I ever have seen
in a village some 10 km outside the town; while strolling for a camping site.
In 91 I almost got robbed but went bezerk and drove the hooligans
on retreat. Of course its worth seeing.
But dont move around in the shady parks in the city's peripheri.

After the Stones tour I'll be saving for Florence and environs.

Don't miss the spectacular Roman sculpture collection at the Louvre . . .just as rewarding as the typically over-crowded renaissance sculpture . . .

Realistically, the Louvre is so wonderful that you need three or four hours a day for many days or trips.

The slow season is the best re spending quality time there.

Forget about the free days. I was there in early June -- a complete zoo.
You'll want a museum pass that cuts way down on queues
