The song is funny, good rhythm and lyrics, but they have done a hundred better ones, I do not need to hear another version of it.

I love Shattered! ...especially the studio version.
Always thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers should re-do it.

IORR............but I like it!

I also agree that Some Girls is overrated. Okay, perhaps at the time is kicked major ass - but it doesn't hold up as well today. Shattered is kind of a non-song. Although I like the bridge - there's more chords in that bridge than the rest of the entire album.

I dunno - kind of a silly throwaway to me.

Some Girls was a kick ass album that put the Stones on top of the world again.
Shattered and Miss You book-ended this album with different sounds. Shattered showed that the Stones could still be cutting edge. I just love that break on the studio version where the guitar solo kicks in, Ronnie I believe. What could be better? I like the pacing of the studio version better than the fast live versions. Some of the live versions are like the studio but I can't recall hearing one that was as good as the studio version all the way thru

It rocks with a fast punky feel Studio or good live versions!

My thoughts exactly.

Was my favorite song on Some Girls in '78 and is still my favorite.

The Still Life version is great, but mostly for Ronnie and Keith's backing vocals.

Great track, but it sounded pretty sloppy the few times I heard it on the most recent tour. I'm remembering the B-Stage in Washington DC, I think, where the guys were actually looking at each other and seemed to be pretty out of sync.

It may be perhaps their greatest song ever?

On recent tours this one actually swings a little. In a groovy way. BUt the live versions of 1981 are great. The studio version rocks.

This easily could be my favorite Stones song.

ok, maybe not THE greatest but definitely ONE of the greatest.

Too think that Some Girls contained a song as fluffy as "Miss You" and a gritty song like "Shattered" is amazing, a true testament to their range of style.

Shattered is grit, true grit...a genuine gutteral and gritty sound.
Shattered reeks an ambience of NYC alleys and sewers, you can feel it in the rhythm.
The Stones never had guitars base and drums in a groove like Shattered before or since, I mean, what is that and where did it come from? Brilliant.

I agree, typically "Shattered" LIVE in concert is crap as it sounds like the Ramones on crack.

i must object to your description of "miss you" as fluff.

let me spin you a yarn: i was cruising down highway one along the Santa Barbara coast yesterday (well - let me specifiy - i don't drive, so i was BEING cruised)when 'Miss You' came on the local classic rock station. we turned it up to max volume and cruised along the pacific - palm trees blowin' in the breeze, 75 degrees Farenheit and not a cloud in the sky. miss you, in all its blusely glory, provided the perfect soundtrack. it's a nasty blues jam at its heart, not "fluff" as so many people idiotically label it.

Well, compared to Shattered it was fluffy... I'm not saying Miss You is a bad song, it's a great disco song from that era. I didn't mean fluffy in a bad way, like a pillow is fluffy, and Miss You is as cool as the other side of your pillow.

Sorry, compared to the Stones' golden era, Shattered is weak and silly.

SHattered is a very strong song...Woody and Keith singing..with Mick! Such a power house in 78!!!..And Miss You..is one of the greatest...nowadays its just a different song...a R&R band doing what no one expected!!

I think Shattered is a kind of hybrid punk-disco song. It's a ambitious effort. Sometimes it works sometimes they really F*** it up live.I like the studio version and I love the lyrics. I do like it better when it "swings" a bit more. If I remember right the version on Voodoo at Halloween was great.

Listen to Anthony Kiedis on "Give It Away" - like a distorted echo of Mick's vocal on the same words in "Shattered". They'd probably have a lot of fun doing a cover.

I like Shattered a lot - it's a funny song and usually leaves me with the giggles or at least a smile.

I read in the book "Its Only Rock N Roll: Song by Song" that shattered was influenced by Devo's cover of Satisfaction.
