What do they do with the stages once the tour is over?
Posted by: liddas ()

Just curious!

I can imagine there are parts that are recycled, others that are simply thrown away, but what of the all the custom made parts, the inflatable stuff, the wallpaper etc.

Or is the whole thing sold to another band, and recustomized?

What happened to the lotus stage?

C

The scaffoldings are reusable

Some stuff is re-sold : the outdoor stage from the 76 tour is now used at Roskilde

For the inflatables and backdrops, I have no idea.

Some of it probably ends up in the Hard Rock Cafe's aircraft hangar storage depot along with all their other R 'n' R paraphernalia....

Part of the Steel Wheels stage (trusses) were donated for use in Buffalo's Shakespeare In The Park stage

Buffalo's Shakespeare In The Park???

That's not very considerate. There's dozens of poor rock legends in the third world who need fire-proof stages to rock out on. I'm thinking of starting an awareness foundation.

What do you suppose happened to the infamous inflatable phallus?

I suppose that for a number of reasons, it hasn't been possible for them to
get it up in such a long long, long time

Maybe they should put THAT in some nice and really
Hard Rock Cafe somewhere.

I thought I read that the phallus got "arrested" in one of the Southern States, so it's presumably gathering dust in an evidence room somewhere like Alabama...

I'm sure the Stones come up with SOME way to make money off of this....they seem to do so w/ everything else.

They need to open STONESLAND amusement park. The stages from Steel Wheels, Voodoo, Bridges, Licks, and ABB would be on the perimeter with all of the smaller stages they've use turned into bars in the middle and as soon as it goes dark, fivce concerts would be be broadcast in entirety - one from each stage - all of the pyrotechnics would go off just like at the shows - they could have breathalizers there and anyone drunk enough would be free to run and climb all over the stages as they were "performing". No concerts featuring guest musicians would be featured.

Security guards would be dressed as Hell's Angels

I bet the actually could charge some hardcore drunk fans for sprinting from the outside ramps, across center stage (quick stop @ Charlie's riser) on to the other outside wing. Just like Jagger does..

I read once that Keith Moon bought the 75 Lotus stage for 150,000 Dollars, No Shit.

I like it.

I'd am in favor of doing some sort of animatronic Rolling Stones Theme Park
like the Hall of Presidents exhibit at Disney World...
Some kind of animatronic Stones that will live on well into the next century.

Different stages with different Rolling Stones bands from various eras!

Brian...
Mick Taylor...
Ronnie...
and as a 4 piece band without beloved Bill (12 piece band).

Special guest animatronic keyboardists:
Stu
Nicky
Billy P
Chuck

and other animatronic guests:
Ry
?

The Stage becomes flooring in the new Trump buildings. They use it as a selling point for the folks with the $450 tickets.

It was in one of the brochures on the seat. ; )

Sold as scrap metal. After a couple years of putting up and breaking down, parts get too worn out? I had a friend on a Metallica tour where they used the in-door snake pit stage. He said towards the end of the tour it was a pain to assemble and was probably going to be junked...minus the lighting, sound and video equip.

What or Where is Roskilde?

In the late 80's I was told that the Lotus Stage was rusting away in a field in Essex, England! Also that Queen had used it at some point.

It is a town in Denmark that annually hosts the Roskilde Festival, which I believe happens in early July.

The '76 outdoor stage has actually been the logo of this festival for many years

It's only the big orange tent they use for the stage and they got a new on about 2 years ago, so it's not the 76 tent anymore sadly.
