Agreed. Saw the Whinos at the Beacon Theater and it was really great, plus got 2 very good records out of it. Also, it probably reinvigorated the band, which was a massive positive. Point I was trying to make was that it got a bit hairy for a couple of years. But, yeah, obviously a moot point.

I'm not rich, but my motto is simple: If you like the band, you'll pay the price to see them.

Well, you can also say: I like them, but not that much as was the case for many "occasional" fans last year during ABB.
I won't pay more than 100 eur for the Police in a stadium (FOS), 125 eur in a arena

i'm getting curious about the apparent fashion around here for this misspelling -
the band's right name is (of course) from "wine", not "whine".
is this a form of humour that i'm not getting?
just curious ...

stoned in dc: IF the lowest priced ticket will be $50...would you want to sit there? obstructed view or opposite end of teh arena, watching the concert on a video screen? Save the $50 and rent the DVD when it comes out.

They are touring Europe in September/October, so probably arenas.

You know, I might be wrong about the high price. I was thinking that I'm sure for $235 Sting will come out during intermission in his Yoga Diaper (only - lotta skin for the frumpy female fans) and do some Yoga positions, Front stage, Center. With any luck maybe even his testicle sac will fall out when he has his ankles behind his neck. Now THAT would be something !!! - Diaper Malfuction !!!

Could someone please tell me what $235 is in British money. Curious to know how much fans are being charged.

Only saw him once myself and that was on his first solo tour in 1986 which ended in Belfast. I was never a big Police fan - they were good, but nothing I'd go out fo the way to see - but I liked the Blue Turtles album and his show was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. I was really surprised. Havent seen him since, though - I find much of his later work a bit hit and miss.

Darryl Jones was in his band on that tour. I met him in the backstage area at the Stones Paris show almost ten years later and was surprised at how vividly he remembered that gig too.

You might want to think this tour over. I read a disappointing newspaper interview with Sting who suggested this will not be much of a 'Police' tour. He has charachterized it as 'just three guys' and 'expresions of the musical directions they have all gone in'. Point being not much in the way of Police hits, heavy on the new what ever music.

i think you read wrong my friend.. or the person who wrote the article had no idea what they were writing about..

its ALL going to be old police songs... all hits...there is no new.

and the "just three guys" is great! no backing crap... raw..

i'm actually getting excited about this show.... very much lookign forward to it..

if i can ignore the last 23 years of sting's insufferability..which i think i can do....

this post title is idiotic by the way.. so the most expensive tickets are 235?? big deal!

it'll sell out regardless. its completely wrong of course. but that goes for the Stones too

depends if you're daft enough to pay it

They had 3 girl back-up singers in 1983. Maybe even a hidden keyboard player. Very good show then. About $15. I went to the show on the DVD from the old Omni in Atlanta.

So just let me get this straight.

Just the three of them.
Only Police songs, no solo material at all.

I AM IN.
They rocked and it looks like they will rock again.
Sting is only 55, you know. Andy's 64.

Rock and roll never dies...

People use their charge cards for these tickets so they are more willing to pay these prices. Put off paying today what you can pay for for the rest of your life.
If tickets were sold on a cash only basis I think you would have a change in the prices since nobody could afford them.
There is no reason for tickets to cost this much. It's greed, pure and simple.
But we keep falling for it over and over again.

blah blah blah...

of course its greed.. i'm greedy too! i want more money too..

whats your point?

the reason tickets cost what they cost is because the market bears it.. pure and simple...

read an econ book

Read into my point more... we continue to pay and they will continue to charge.

The problem is that I do not believe people can afford to pay these prices. People charge these insane prices on their cards and go into deep debt to pay off their concert tickets.
I understand that people should be responsible but they are not.

Also, what are we getting for these prices? Do you enjoy concerts more than you did 20 years ago because of the prices?

The entire concert going experience has changed, it doesn't mean anything like it use to. With these prices being charged today, every concert is an "event". In reality, the "event" is far from that and most of the time you feel ripped off.
At one time a person could go to a concert every few weeks - it was affordable for most people. This is not the case now. It's a shame and those ECON books do not say anything about this. ;-)

Speak for yourself 1969, I paid cash for every stones show in 05,06 which equated to 40 show's.

40 shows at $235 is $9400 - if you got it, good for you. I think paying these prices for ALL concerts is insane and that is what is happening. Every artist is charging these kind of prices.

I do not charge my tickets, I pay cash as well. But I also see that these prices are too much and will not pay that price.

Can anyone show where concerts are truly worth $450, $235, or even $150???

Maybe it was a mid life crisis, just kidding. It was perfect for me it was'nt just the stones i got to go around the world the stones were the iceing on the cake,it was a wonderful year and a half. but i would not pay 235 for the police,50 yea. That's just how i see it in my book, for the stones it was something i alway's wanted to do. it was alot more than 9400,with all the travel,lodging's,etc...

stoned in dc -

Quotes from yesterday's paper taken from webcast interview with Sting from LA.

"We're going to play songs we've never played before"

"It's going to be three guys on stage, that's all" (I'm thinking don't expect the Police here)

" Sting says he expects the music on the tour will reflect the band members increasing age and experience"

Read what you will into it but concensus around my office was this is a fling for them. Despite the office being filled with concert ticket holders for every performer under the sun not one person here wants to go.

Well, you lived a dream of mine! LOL!

I do not have a problem with paying more for the Stones either but I do think they still charge a bit too much. The problem I have is when acts that have only been around a few years start charging these amounts. It has become the standard rate and I don't think it's worth what they are getting for it.

I miss the days when concerts were simple and fun, not a hassle. You make hard economic decisions when you buy a ticket these days.

Glad to hear you fulfilled your dream. Now I can sit back and be extremely jealous!

I agree with you the stones charge way to much in the US that is. In Europe it was allright 120 euros for FOS basically that is'nt going to kill anyone but 450 dollars is atrocious!
