Yeah, Normaal, THAT's a band. We're talking X-factor? (No we're not talking X-Factor but I want to make a point but my head is not clear yet, still too early.) This band has more X-factor then ANY of the winners of this TV-show will EVER have, adding them up all together from the first winner last year to the last one in 10 years, all continents together. Something like that. Bad argumentation, I know, but I mean it!!!

Maybe it was just a story but i read that the Golden Earring were asked to open for the stones in '98 in the Hague, there home town. Barry Hay, or maybe the whole band, said that they weren't going to opne for another band anymore in this stage of there carreer. Too bad, it would have been the perfect opening act for that show with a very enthousiastic crowd!

Cheers,
Wuudy

There's always been something fun about those early nineties Dutch bands. Cool thing is: One of the memebers from either 2Unlimited or Twenty 4 Seven now works as a post man.

My faves are -

Groep 1850
Q65
a soft spot for Shocking Blue - loved their lead singer but i think that tragically she died recently

anyone heard - Les Baroques , a beat band. I have a video clip of them performing "Working on a Tsjing Tsjang" - which is one of the craziest promo videos i have ever seen

It's actually the Bintangs (with only one 'G') - Malaysian for 'stars'

at the moment it's KANE, although they are getting a bit commercial these days. In their early beginnings they were way more rock & roll.

I saw Kane about three years ago in The Hague, I thought they were way too arrogant, too wannabe. They have some great songs though, but live... too much macho acting for me.

I think that Focus was an extraordinary good band. Their Guitarplayer Jan Aakermaan (?) was one of the best players ever! Do they still play?

Yes, but not with the original line-up anymore. Jan Akkerman has been replaced. Jan Akkerman though still performs with his own band. I saw him one year ago; he's very very very good! Still I prefer simple junglemusic from the Stones!

Baboon! Is your grandfather a Dutch chimp or something? Why do you know so many Dutch music? What if I started a thread about Greek music, would you also have so much to come up with?

Cornelis is a kind of national bard of Sweden...
Even the schoolchildren today,
twenty years after his feath do sing his songs.
Same goes - to some extent - for Norway Denmark, where he also worked
(as a tax refugee in Denmark).
Normaal I saw on tv around 1980-81.
My parents record "collection" is full of Ekseption.
They were very popular here

Now I will try to get some time to listen at Carlitos samples
of Spanish music.

Greek music for me is Nana Mouskori, Melina Mercouri & Theodorakis.
We have some Cretan cd's.

In other words, Meditteranean rock music is a blind spot in my mind.
