There are two sets of Blues tunes that are indispensable: the leftovers from Vodoo (B sides) - The Storm, Jump on Top of me, I am driving (?) and the leftovers from IBC - Hi Heeled Sneakers, Meet me in the Bottom, Baby what's wrong, Roadrunner, Diddley daddy. Then too - 32-20 Blues, fancy Man Blues, cook cook Blues, (there s one other one from those times) - Honest I Do, King Bee, Who's driving your Plane
"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."
Little Baby is secretly my favourite song on Stripped. Although I would never admit it of course.
The last part of the album is very very strong, probably one of the strongest sequences in their catalogue. Slipping Away, a good version of Angie, Love In Vain, Sweet Virginia, Little Baby... even the silence after Little Baby is great.
and if we're going for bootlegs too: all of the Checkerboard Lounge 81 set (do recordings by solitary Stones and/or New Barbarians count? Worried Life Blues, Oh Lord Don't Let Them Drop That Atomic Bomb on Me, Cocaine Blues, Still a Fool, Key to the Highway ...)
some surprising inclusions on some of the lists - blues sure is a stretchy genre! have some popcorn.
Oh yes - Side 3 from "Love you Live" > Especially "Mannish Boy" and "Rooster". Talkin bout You" off December's Chbildren. I would also raid the solo output. Jagger's album with the Red Devils that was even considered at one time for official release. "It Hurts me Too" off "Jamming w/Edward. "Stewed and Keefed" from early 60's. "@120 So Michigan Ave", "Grown up wrong", "What a shame", "I can't be satisfied" one of the best Blues they ever did. "Had it with you" from Dirty Work. "Break the Spell" - Steel Wheels. Stones are one badass Blues band. Virtually every R&B tune from early days is a must IMO. You get "Mr Spector and Mr Pitney came too" to hear Brian blow some fierce harmonica and Keith play the guitar like a man. Same with "Now I've got a witness".

Yeah, sssoul. The problem is that there is a difference of opinion about what "blues" is. I think most scholars would say blues is a musical form with a pretty concrete definition, or at least that it is composed of certain specific, agreed-upon characteristics. But,in common language, it is also a musical style, with a somewhat more flexible definition.
cool - thank you kindly, Texas Fan! trying to define genre boundaries has real limited value, but it intrigues me anyway. meanwhile, this same wide variation in views happens every time people start comparing notes - i was surprised to learn (right here on iorr!) that "reggae" is now widely used to mean "practically any warm-climate-sounding music"; and it's always fun to try to come up with a definition of r&b that more than about six people would agree on. smile: one thing we did succeed in settling is: rock & roll swings :E have some popcorn.

Tie You Up is most certainly a blues song, IMO....not a classic 12-bar structured one. The Stones ripped this one right outta the Lowell Fulsom school of blues - admittedly so, too...
Anything Moore & Mick, Mick & the Red Devils, or the 3 tracks of Mick & Keith with Jimmy Rogers. Also, the band & BB King - Paying the Cost to Be the Boss.
I got the Blues. Mentioned only briefly so far. But one of the best blues numbers. Love in Vain. Espicially live. Down in The Hole and I like Back of My Hand a lot off of ABB.
