I'm gonna see Paul Weller next week in Heineken Music Hall Amsterdam. Just yesterday I received
a message from the organizer that, due to a "long set" they have changed there will be no standing
places, only seated. Aaaahhh, that's dreadful. I want to stand shoulder to shoulder at a concert,
not to be seated!!!!

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Is Weller better than well?

Sorry, as a non native speaker I should keep away from making word-jokes. But I must say I was
really enjoying Paul Weller last night in Amsterdam, and even though he does not always look
too happy, I had the impression mr. Weller was enjoying himself too! At least he gave us a
full two and a half hour show, and there was not one minute of weakness during the show.

He started of with a full rendition of Sonic Kicks, complete from start to finish, all songs
in the same order as on disk. A lot of sonic noises were kept away from the stage, but what remained
was a strong set of songs to prove he is probably one of the best singer songwriters of the moment.

After a ten minute break (a moment to get acquainted to the people standing around us, yeah,
we were standing at the three meter strip in front of the stage, before the first line of chairs)
they came back with an accoustic set of about five songs, played by four guitar players and
one bass.

After that the energy never stopped flowing. Punk, rock, new wave, whatever, the songs were played
fast, with only a couple of seconds in between to change guitars. During this part of the show
there was more eye contact between the members in the band, allowing them to improvise and jam,
but still the songs were kept compact, with many of them clocking only a minute of three.
That's the way to make a setlist of more than 30 songs!
I lost track of the number of encores. But there was a three song encore, a four song encore and
a final encore with Changing Man. No stage banter, or small talk. Only one short moment when
Paul mentioned the result of England-Sweden after coming back from a two minute break between
encores.

Go see Paul and his band. You're in for a treat. They control many styles, and Paul really
is an excellent song writer.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

Chuck Berry, june 16th, Cannes (La Palestre)

What? Chuck in Europe? There is no word about it here: [chuckberry.com]

Am I missing something? Are there any other dates?

Thanks Harm, Cannes is too far away for me and there don't seem to be any other dates. Strange that Mr. Berry would fly to Europe for one gig. Anyway, have a great time and let us know how you enjoyed it!

It was cancelled BTW

Might go to a Mitch Ryder book signing, interview, question and answer thing at my local library tomorrow. It's right down the street from where I work.

Good question. I'm happy to say I have reservations for Charlie Watts and his boogie band at the Iridium Club in NYC for two nights - the first night just Charlie and the ABCD guys; the second night sitting in with the Les Paul house band!

Really looking forward to it!

That's too bad! Hardly surprizing though, I can not imagine that Mr. Berry would fly to Europe for one gig, it sounded strange from the very beginning. I have never seen him and I think the chances are next to none now, but I would really love to.

The Blushing Brides; wow, I saw them in '95. Guitar player was AMAZING (Paul?) but the singer's voice was paper-thin (and dressed and acted like Mick which made it hard to take the show seriously).

My next show...
