Treasure--fits the album perfectly.

Rootsy sounding acoustic tune, great, very humorous lyrics. Excellent.

I do not see how anyone can not like this song.

Yeah by the mid to late 60's the Stones were
obviously pushing further back into the blues and
listening to pre-war country artists....these influences
seeped into the Stones music...most notibly from Beggars thru to Exile..

The comedy/hokum style is prevelent in nearly all country blues
perfomers black & white...Jimmie Rodgers...William Moore....Frank Stokes
....Carlisle Bros.....Frank Hutchison....Blind Black......just to touch on a few...

As for Dear Doctor...Treasure with an acoustic style and
dose of humour that the Stones/Jagger really should visit way more often....

Jaggers vocals put me off on Dear Doctor. I like the guitar playing though,

Quite so. And it's fun. A good and early example of the Stones tipping a tongue in cheek hat to their country influences.
I think they've always handled the country flavoured stuff very well. The playing is always authentic and valid and they've always managed to stay just on the right side of the line between homage and parody with the lyrics and vocals.
I love this material.
It was actually hearing the Stones do country flavoured stuff that made me first investagate and start listening to country. How much great music would I have missed out on if that hadn't happened ?

Treasure. The lyrics are about the funniest I have ever heard. I always think about that when yet another one of my friends tells me he's getting married (most often to bow-legged sows).

Treasure. Would love for the Stones to do more acoustic rootsy/country stuff. Unlikely, I suppose, apart from the odd outtake and the occasional gem dusted off for a lucky audience.

The BB songs in this vein (Namely Dear Doctor, Prodigal Son and Factory Girl) are all true treasures.

Depends on my mood. I mean it's funny, etc.
Sometimes I sing along, sometimes I press 'skip'.

Always a crowd pleaser when I play it and sing it with a friend of mine at parties.
I sing the high-pitched vocals and the "honey, I'm sorry to hurt youuuuuu" part.
People crack up laughing in spasms.

The song is not much in itself but it is great within the album. I always regarded BEGGAR'S BANQUET as sort of a concept album where the record outshines the individual songs.

absolutely--I think songs like "She Saw Me Coming" would be much more fun if they had gone for a style like this.

I really like SM - always have. I like the way it builds, with new sounds being layered on, reminiscent of Revel's Bolero. Love the slide. When the drums kick in about half way through, it really takes off. Micks vocals are perfect.

Holy shit. I just realized I frickin LOVE this song!

Oh, yeah. I dig Dear Doctor too, but not as much (today, anyways).

This track held Beggars Banquet back.Replace Dear Doctor with something stronger and this album would be flawless.

Treasure, mate. Comedy country, a precursor to Faraway Eyes.

Beggars banquet is one of those albums where I have to listen to the whole thing. I can't allow myself to press skip. I believe that it is perfection.

Treasure, don't like Sister Morphine that much either
DD tells a funny ass story and Mick's falsetto is good.

First of all Beggar's is my favorite Stones album. I know that out of the 4 so called classic stones albums, this one would probably be the lowest rated among critics. Dear Doctor is a song that grows on you. Yes Jaggers vocal style is hard to take. What's really cool though is they kept up the country song aspect all the way up to Some Girls with FAE.
