Bigger Bang - The 3 Year Tour...

Kinda reminds me of the song from Gilligans Island...except they were on a 3 hour tour

I'll bet some you the musicians on this board could right a song about the Stones and the Bigger Bang Tour and use the music from the Gilligans Island TV show

DO IT!!!!

Is it a problem? Bob Dylan's been on a "never-ending tour" for awhile now, and from what I hear, no one seems to have a problem with it.... I would think it would be difficult to keep the fan excitement level up indefinitely, though.

It's a problem because like you mentioned, the fan-excitment fades off a little bit when the band comes to your town for the 4th time in a one year period...and keeping the stamina of 60 year old men is also dangerous. They've traveled to several continents in 2 1/2 years--I'm surprised they haven't cancelled more shows than they already have! Charlie being the oldest...hasn't missed one show.

They gotta take it easy on the tours. No more big ones. The only positive thing coming from shorter tours is the hope that future tours would be more feasible.

I agree. They should rest their bones.

... and open the vaults!

i don't see the stones gearing it up for any small tours, frankly (assuming they would be even physically able to in the future) - not enough money - wouldn't be worth it for them. i suspect they'll honor the existing plans of doing the makeup shows next year and that will be it. '78 was the last time they did anything on a small scale - that was about an 8-week tour - and i seriously don't think they even know or understand how to think in smaller terms anymore.

lots of shows at smaller places...real small places....book the venues for like 5 days in a row...and just add the next show after the one before it sales out...keep the ticket prices up....seems to me a smaller venue would be less epensive to rent...and being able to set the stage up once for ...say 4 shows could be a cost savings.

I wish that is what they would do next

Anything compared to a 3-year tour is what I'm referring as a "small tour."

They can do a lot of cities/countries in 3-6 (1 year max) month tour which is something I think they milk, financially. An 8 week tour would be a waste of time and the amount of planning and staging wouldn't be worth it.

They don't play back to back days anymore and you're asking for 5 consecutive nights?

say every other night....so reserver the venue for 6 nights

They cant' put in a 10 hour work week?
Plus smaller place means less running about = much better singing.

(pondering pedro's penance)

Sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of long , long trek
It started out in Boston , Mass
At famed old Fenway Park

We heard some tunes that were new
And some from way back when
We reveled in each new set
From four great English men

We followed them through Europe
And parts of Asia too
Sometimes we were left to muse
The opening act is who ?

Watched them on the internet
Play to over a million fans
Read reviews from near and far
Although some were pans

Keith took a spill from up
high in yonder coconut tree
Reqiuring a bit of rest
And minor brain surgery

Mick lost his voice
the tour seemed doomed
Our poor friends from Spain
lost all of their shows and fumed

Ronnie lost a brother
Mick , he lost his dad
death is such a tragedy
I know I was sad

You've made it through
yet again another rigorous tour
And leave your fans
always wanting more

Always wanting more
always wanting more
always wanting more
always wanting more

Very nice, Boston. Who's who in the show? Ronnie = Gilligan Charlie = The Professor Mick = The Skipper (name only) and Keith = Mr. Howell.

I read some interview where they said that they'd never do a tour as long as the B2B/NS Tour again. That one lasted 3 years approx. Great that they'll do a tour that long (approx.) again.

Ok, I'll bite. First I must briefly review the lyrics of the original song to get the tune good and stuck in my head ...

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship

The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour………

The weather started getting rough
The tiny ship was tossed
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost; the Minnow would be lost.

The ship took ground on the shore of this
Uncharted desert isle

With Gilligan, the Skipper too
The Millionaire, and his Wife
The Movie Star, the Professor and Mary Ann
Here on Gilligan's Isle!

(And then, after our 30 minutes of fun with the Castaways was done, we would hear……)

So this is the tale of our castaways
They're here for a long, long time
They'll have to make the best of things
It's an uphill climb

The first mate and his skipper, too
Will do their very best
To make the others comfortable
In the tropic island nest
No phones, no lights, no motor cars
Not a single luxury
Like Robinson Crusoe
It's primitive as can be

So join us here each week my friend
You're sure to get a smile
From seven stranded Castaways
Here on Gilligan's Isle!

Ok, I think I got it. Just don't form a lynch mob and come after me, it's all tongue in cheek, I swear!

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
A tale of a guy named Mick
With tons of cash but plans for more
So he plotted a long trip

(And A Bigger Bang’s his solo album
But please don’t let it slip)

Now Keef is a mighty wasted man
Ronnie’s lying on the floor
But Mick said “Hey, get up, you sods,
We’ve a three year tour!
A three year tour!”

Soon the playing started getting rough
Bad notes were getting tossed
If not for the cues of the keyboardist
The guitarists would be lost; both guitarists would be lost

The band felt sure they were chasing an
Uncharted record gross
And no one’s croaked on the tour so far
Though Keith and Ronnie have come close

They’re millionaires, but they wanna be movie stars
With twenty year old extras
Milling around on the floor
And they’ll keep on going
Until we run out of money
Here on the Bigger Bang tour!

(Then they’d play the show, after which the last verse would close everything out, just like on Gilligan’s Island)

So this is the tale of the Rolling Stones
Who've been around for a long, long time
They're compelled to add to their record gross
It's an uphill climb

Mick Jagger and that Cohl guy, too
Will do their very best
To make the others comfortable
And secure their beauty rest
Five star hotels and limousines
They’ll spare no luxury
Go back now to the grungy club scene?
That’s as primitive as can be!

So join us twice a week my friend
Although you’ve seen it all before
From four persistent English dudes
Here on the Bigger Bang Tour!

Ok, now someone needs to come up with a song about the Stones set to the tune of the Brady Bunch. I'll be sitting here waiting patiently.

I think they should do a summer in Vegas. They could play like Prince, who plays i believe 3 shows a week. It wouldn't be too stressful and they could do a lot of different songs. I know some people don't like Vegas acts, but it could be very interesting

"Did the 'A Bigger Bang ' tour not start Sept.05 and end Nov.06 which is 1.25 years."

But putting things in perspective, most touring bands play that many shows in 5 or 6 months so it doesn't really seem like an extensive tour at all to me no matter how long they drag it out.
