>>"Memo From Turner" – 2:45
* Recorded on 17 November 1968, it is unknown who plays on this song ...
the purported line-up of James Mason on guitar and Jimmy Miller, or whoever else, on drums <<

the excellent nzentgraf.de has Al Kooper on guitar on the Metamorphosis version,
Ry Cooder on guitar on the movie version,
and the following line-up on the first demo version:
MJ (voc)/Steve Winwood (gtr, bass, p, org)/Jim Capaldi (dr)

Right, thanks for the heads-up!

But it still sounds suspicious to me...

Be My Baby is a monster, but don't think of Phil Spector as a one-trick pony.

Don't forget:
Spanish Harlem
Da Doo Ron Ron
He's A Rebel
He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)
Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry
Then He Kissed Me
Wait Til My Bobby Gets Home
Girls Can Tell
Why Do Lovers Break Each Others Hearts
The Best Part Of Breaking Up
UNchained Melody
You've Lost That Loving Feeling
River Deep/Mountain High
Pretty Little Angel Eyes
I Love How You Love Me
Every Little Breath I Take

And those are just the hits - I'm not even listing other personal favorites.

Plus, he produced End Of The Century for the Ramones (which I think is the perfect balance for Ramones of Punk & mature - a balance they never really struck on any other record).
Also, the first song the man ever wrote was "To Know Him Is To Love Him" - he also played and sung on the recording (the title of which was based on the epitaph on his father's headstone).

Don't sell Phil Spector short, the man was great great great.
Even though he was an absolute maniac.

I would say Phil Spector made some of the most violent-sounding pop sngs of all time - just listen to Da Doo Ron Ron, it's relentless. I would go so far as to say his work was a precursor to the Velvets.

Just to add: Chris Farlowe's Out Of Time got no. 1 and competed with the likes of Strangers In The Night and Paperback Writer!!!

Hey yeah and what about Andrew Loog's aborted Necrophilia
...that's just one big Mr Spector style trip...and a damn good hip listen.

"We're wasting time": What an appropriate title.
The demorecordings of Mick backed by sessionmen/the Andrew Oldham Orchestra shouldn't have been presented as a Rolling Stones effort.

OT: Is Flowers a better album? And isn't it's story similar to Mets?

"I'd Much Rather be with the Boys" was also a staple of Johnny Thuners shows for many years. Until he OD'd that is.

Flowers is a way more "normal" compilation than Metamorphosis - more like High Tides & Green Grass;
and the Stones did have something to do with its release, the cover design, etc.
whether it's "better" than Metamorphosis or not depends on what you're looking for.
if you're looking for Jiving Sister Fanny, Metamorphosis is definitely better. :E

Flowers covers singles & leftover tracks from 66-67. Only CD to get some songs on it, I think.

Right. You used to need it for more before the UK CD releases of Aftermath and Between the Buttons.

_____________ a very nice trifecta

Sometimes I like albums just for one or two standout tracks. Metamorphosis has several tracks I really dig - I Don't Know Why, Jiving Sister Fanny, I'm Going Down, Family, Don't Lie To Me, If You Let Me, Out Of Time ... enough for me to like the album.
