Seated pitch eveywhere next year ???
Posted by: Doc ()

There are several rumors concerning the 2007 european tour.
One of them is about negociations taking place currently for a concert in Paris at the Stade de France.
This is great news, but the thing is that they are said to consider putting reserved seats on the pitch like in the US/UK.

The issue is that they will have to sell less tickets for a sellout since you can put less seated people on the pitch than in a usual standing configuration, but the hard-core fans will have to spend big money to be close to their favourite band.

Is it just a rumor ???
Do some of you have any information concerning Paris or other shows ???

The only stadium concert that ever took place in a seated stadium in France was Celine Dion, back in the late 90ies. I hope this information will still be valid next year…

wouldn't suprise me- it's a nice stunt, for generating a bigger gross by selling less tickets.

If this apply's to Barcelona- i won't go

Wouldn't be surprised. We've had to put up with that in the UK for the last two tours.
I've always believed that the best seats should go to he who sits outside longest..not he who gets lucky on Ticketmaster ;^)

Macca also did it at the Stade de France in 2004.I paid 132 euro for the VIP section (and forgot to go)

Can't say I wont go to see the Stones next time because of that...A sugly as it sounds, I'll just start saving money right now.

I rather pay for a reserved seat ( I wish at lower prices) and show up 15 minutes before they come on stage. Instead of battling with a crowd that shows up 5 hrs early.

Yeah I had very nice experience with tailgate parties in the Us - thanks StonesDoug ! - but I doubt this will be possible in Europe.
In Paris it won't be possible because the parking lots are underground, and elsewhere I don't know if people will have the idea.

I really hope it only is a rumor

Yes, but that the whole idea: higher ticketprices.

Pitch:
10.000 seats at 200 eur: 2.000.000
or
20.000 standing x 90 eur : 1.800.000

+ Will they sell 20.000 tickets (pitch) in Paris?

Honestly I can't imagine European crowds putting up with this, plus increasing ticket prices is not exactly a recommended move right now, and I'm sure they're well aware of it.

Its only Macca he forgot to see.
No big deal, he's an exclusive stones fan, that's why his subconscient erased the information.

Same price, including wine & dine and meet & greet... I could live with that.

Yeah, me too. Basically, you get crushed to near death and once you're in position, you're pretty much stuck there. It's a f***ing pain in the a** and I personally couldn't be happier if next year's stadium shows in Europe were pitch seating as opposed to general admission. Long overdue in my opinion, the sooner it happens the better.

General admission is all about survival of the fittest.

Who are the fittest? The young.

Who are the Stones fans? The old.

Reserved seating makes sense.

i'm definitely a GA type of chick - ahem, at least when it comes to Stones concerts!
i dig being FOS with other people who really mean it,
rather than being surrounded by types who are there just by accident.

For the kind of $$ one has to pay to attend a Stones show the least they can do is reserve me a 2-foot square of space that I can call my own. I can tailgate as long as I want and avoid $7.00 beers, skip the opener if I want and wander around the venue knowing that my space is still there if I want to claim it.

Guys... Is this november cold already eating up your spirit of life? Rock'n roll is not to be digested seated for an exclusive public. What do we do with seats? We throw 'm over the fences as soon as the doors open. We will not, never, occupy them only 15 minutes before showtime, in order to run up front as soon as Keith does the first riffs of JJF. It's just not like that. If I have to spend the pre-show time seated, within confined boxes of rows of seats, moving around along layed out paths... where will my sense of RnR freedom be? With whom do I form a nice group of people to share the burden of finding the guy with the beertank/getting my drinks at the bar?

It just aint right...

All the UK gigs this year were fully seated. If you ligered around the boards you could have gone to nearly every gig for £60 and be within the first 10 rows. You're guaranteed your place, no crushing, fighting etc. I had no complaints about the seating, everyone was stood up anyway!!
Twickenham 1- A3 row 2 for £60
Twickenham 2- A1 row 4 for £60
Sheffield- A3 row 4 for £60 (Aisle seat! So could dance freely)
Glasgow- A4 row 2 for £60
Cardiff- A1 row 11 for £90

Having those seats for those prices was an absolute dream!

Reserved seating is killing Rock shows. The best Stones show I saw was Wembly 1999. The fans who arrived first got the choice to stand in front of the stage before barriers went up. It was pure Heaven for me. Reserved seating shows suck.

The Twickenham pitch looked very lame this year. Just not right for a stones gig. More for a Cliff Richard thing

If this is going to happen - that would be it for me. As I have said several times before: The Rolling Stones in an all-seated stadium - that's the end of rock'n roll. Just the thought of it makes me feel terrible. A nightmare to come true. Waiting outside the stadium for 6 or 7 hours chatting with "real" Stones fans, then running for your life, grabbing the barrier front of stage, sitting down and breathing for a minute or two, finding out if all your hardcore friends have succeeded in getting their usual spots at the barrier and spending another four hours with friends next to you who really deserve their spots at the front. No matter if you get soaking wet in the driving rain (remember The Hague 98?)or sweat and stink (Licks 2003, VL 95). That's rock'n roll, man, not turning up five minutes before show time and take your front row seat that was given to you because you know the manager of Mercedes Benz.If people really want to sit during a Stones show (there might be a few who HAVE TO for health reasons), get a seat a mile away from the stage. But - for the sake of rock'n roll - keep the pitch free of this nonsense. Survival of the fittest ? Only young people can make it to the front, Stones fans are old ? Well, I'm old (52) but I've always made it to the front row.
