The Paris show is overall my favourite one (of five) seen on the Bang tour.

I was FOS, got there about an hour before the start, positioned myself comfortably close to the catwalk about halfway to the b-stage, plenty of room to jump around during the concert except when the small stage was in motion of course, with no seats to keep crashing into.

I would think that only if you really need to be very very close FOS, then perhaps it's better to be reserved seating, but standing just a few rows further back is just fine for me, less frenetic and room to sit on the covered pitch before the show.

It really would be a shame imo for Stones concerts to be all seater, remembering the joyous scenes at the San Siro and Buenos Aires for example, that could never be reproduced with assigned seating.

Are you off your trolley ? I was in the front 3 rows for all five UK shows in August, and I could count on the fingers of one hand the people within my field of vision that SAT on their seats during the shows. And who the f*** knows the manager of Mercedes Benz ? Not I, not anyone I know, and I would bet not anyone you know either. What a ridiculous statement. It wouldn't occur to you for one moment would it, that whilst you're gassing with "real" fans outside the stadium before you run for your life when they open the gates .... all for the privilege of standing up against the barrier like a complete dildo getting crushed to near death .... that the rest of us lily livered jessies could possibly be in a bar somewhere or other ALSO gassing with "real " fans ? What a load of absolute bollocks you speak.

I have always felt standing on the pitch was the only way to be.

That is why I prefer to go to Europe rather than England last 2 tours.

Glasgow seated pitch however made me look at things a bit different.

The only problem is how many places in europe would they let you stand/dance on your seat ??.

I had a ticket to see Radiohead, and I kept thinking "concert starts at 8:00 so I need to leave by 6:00". When I was ready to leave, I took a look at the ticket and the concert started at 18:00.

As long as 50% of the public is younger than 30 years old (and it is), seating is not only tasteless, but it is, as said before by me and others, the end of RnR.

TO ALL YOU LONG TIME VETERAN HARD CORE STONES FANS!

Imagine yourselves entering the venue in '73! In '75! In '78 or '81! Imagine there would be a sea of seats and one of them was connected to you through the numbers on your ticket! Wouldn't that arouse serious red fogs for your eyes, wouldn't it make you mad! Wouldn't you feel insulted to the last millimeter of each of your footlong hairs?

IT WOULD AROUSE MADNESS!!! YOU WOULD BE INSULTED TO THE BONE!!!

You would feel so embarrassed, deeply insulted, you would CLAIM that day would be the END of RnR. So what's the difference now? While people are calling the Stones a Vegas-act, their ways conservative, their members too old to climb palm trees, the band too old to perform like they did in the old days, WITHOUT being critical to your own age, that of your parents, what you and they do and do not anymore, because of age?

What do you do?

You ask for seated Rolling Stones concerts. Wake up!!! YOU ARE ASKING FOR SEATED RS-concerts!!!

There is only one thing left to do, and do it before it is too late!

Apologize in an open letter here and on the RS.com forum, plea guilty and pay your depts by promising that you will stand in line, before 3.00 in the morning the day the presale for Euro2007 starts. In the december-cold, without complaining, as excited as you were 30 years ago. With only a thick coat, a bottle of brandy and your love for the band to keep you warm

Now, DO IT and let's hope the Stones will forgive you and still continue with their plans for 2007. You will be held responsible for the consequences!!!

There are definate advantages to seated pitches,like,for instance;

not having to get there early and spending hours waiting outside, then waiting hours trying to defend your position inside.

How many times have you stood, exausted after 4 hours dealing with idiot drunks pushing past and starting fights if anyone challenges them ? (every Scottish gig I've ever been to!)

Most fans are getting the wrong side of 40 and can't stand for hours anymore.

It's the only way you can take kids and be close to the stage as my 11 yr old son was when we where 8 th row at Sheffield.

On the down side have you noticed how far from the stage the front row of seats are ? In the old days the crush down the front was really close. I remember Keith walking past me in the "pit" the last night they played Wembley.

The main problem with seats is the way that they release the seats on TM. forcing people to settle for shit on the day of sale !

well, reserved seating didn't stop them doing that in Glasgow this year, did it.

Seated pitches are the worst! OK, I can understand that in the US - where many people are quite heavy and would have a problem standing, jumping, dancing for 6-7 hours - seating - even in the pitch, is a must. But in Europe? Not yet, at least.

Seated pitches guarantees a less enthousiastic, less fit crowd. Guarantees we won't see many golden moments, due to lack of audience response. The Stones do so depend on audience response! When we're hot - they're on fire. I just hate it when people in the first few rows in the US tell us to "sit down, please - you're blocking my view". I just feel like telling them;: Get up and scream, dance - sing - go bananas! You're ruining everyone's night. Including the band's night...

I have seen The Stones at Stade de France on the two last tours, I just love that beautiful stadium. I have had FOS ticket both times, and love the crowd and the atmosphere and would love to go again - but not with reserved seats on the pitch.

That is VERY true, and bloody annoying it was too. I and the person I was stood next to in the front row at Glasgow told a good few such twats to f*** off, in very direct terms too !

As many things, seating in the pitch has its pros and cons...

I've slept two nights in a row at the Big A in 1978 and I arrived at 5 AM at Jack Murphy Stadium in 1981 to get to the front. I've slept outside the SD Sports Arena to get tix for Zep. But I was in my late teens ans 20s then...

Now, here in Europe is niecer and I love to be in the pitch during the concert but I hate to have to arrive too early. And then I hate more those f***g jerks who arrive late and push their way to the front (whant to kill 'em).

The only thing I have against sitting in the pitch is the prices...And yes, the occasional jerk to ask you to sit down.

i love both you guys and see both points of view and had the privilidge of sitting next to you rrronnie in the mud in zurich and i have to agree i kind of like it too. i always get front row at FOS shows but never at a seated show. i only got 11th row next to the catwalk in oakland because i got tickets through a friend of charlie's. otherwise, i'm in the side sections or "on stage". there's definitely some sort of thrill to get through the gates and run like hell. i thought i was going to drop dead after the run in austin but i got front row at the corner catwalk. i think i thrive on the stress of the stones tour, which includes trying to get tickets for theater shows (paulywaul) - are you going to AC for sure?

It is always the same old faces in the front row. The ones who are too old and ugly to be seen on film.

straycatuk nailed one problem
"The main problem with seats is the way that they release the seats on TM. forcing people to settle for shit on the day of sale ! "

Exactly. Even if you get on line to book your seats the second the sale starts..you still can't get the ones you want.

I've been a serious fan of the Stones for 35 years. I've slept on pavements outside Virgin Records to buy tickets,I've turned up outside stadiums at six in the morning to get to the front row.[and still would!] But I don't have the connections or knowledge which is these days obviously required to get the seats you want for every gig...which some folks seem to manage !
Sorry, but I just don't think it's fair...period.

For excellent seats check the boards every day and you'll be rewarded, especially with Stadium gigs. Regarding Scotland this year, in my opinion it was grim. Drunken, drugged up morons everywhere and no crowd control. They weren't even there to have a good time most were trying to pick fights and my girlfriend was scared to death. Many were doing coke too, I don't have a problem with it, if they were into the gig it would have been cool but they were only there for Satisfaction and Start Me Up. To be honest I wondered how they all managed to get these seats. I saw Thru and Thru and Stones Fan In Toronto from Shidoobee they seemed very conscious of the issues and I felt bad for all the real fans who had to put up with such a fiasco.

I understand that people with health problems etc would want to sit, and I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with, is those healthy people of all ages who sit all through the show and complain that they cannot see anything because you are standing enjoying the whole experience. In my modest number of 12 shows this has happened 4 times, where we had seats far in the back. I would much rather have stood on the floor, at least one is allowed to move somewhat freely without people getting mad at you.

My Dad is turning 60 and has a bad back. Still, he has joined me at 4 Stones shows and many other shows and never wants to sit. Not always to do with age, at these 4 mentioned shows it was younger people who complained.

Unless you have a good reason to sit, which is perfectly fine, I cannot see that sitting at a rock show gives you much. Being passive without showing much reaction to what goes on...? I have been witness to this a few times, both in Europe and the US - and it made me sad. I was so glad to get floor tix again this year after 5 previous shows with seats where very few were standing in my section.

Well..If it is seated on the pitch ..everywhere theses chairs/seaters everwhere in the Stadium.. It is noting for me. That is the dead of Rock n Roll!!!
Everyone have their own way to enjoy a StonesConcert...but..for me..Thats It!
I rather pay 100Euros for a standing Fos at the barrier than 1EuroCoin for for the possiblilitie to sit down!

RocknRoll to me is not a Cinema!
