Has to be Start Me Up

I think Miss You is a great song...the problem with Miss You to me is... they played it so well on the 89 tour that anytime it was played after that..just could not match up.

Actually I have been listening to the Some Girls CD alot lately...and there is not one bad song on the CD!!!!!!

From the time it was released, I have never understood the fascination with YCAGWYW. I know this is all about personal tastes, but that song, to me, is way too boring and way too long, the song that never ends.

Miss you is MARVELOUS, can never tire of it, either live or studio

Start me up, what?? Absolute classic. Rock in a nutshell. Hyper groovy, great drums-guitar interraction, fittingly silly lyrics and a hook that's forever. Start me up! bam-babam-babam. How can one NOT like it? I hum it all the time!

Sympathy, well, what to say... one of the greatest, and most original pieces ever...

BUT
I agree with Thief: Mother in the shadow does nothing to me. Annoying 'I'm the rebel mocking the bourgeois' pose, noisyish mess, rubbish. Jagger gets on my nerves on this one, and that says a lot.

Now, my turn to raise eyebrows: I think Gimme Shelter is overrated. Love the studio arrangement, though. Great song for sure, but not in my top twenty.

It's a good thing that Eric_Snow closed this thread, because if I actually had read that some people think Mother's Little Helper, Have You Seen Your Mother ...., Start Me Up, Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Miss You, Wild Horses, Beast of Burden, Tumbling Dice, and You Can't Always Get What You Want are over-rated I may have slashed my wrists.

Gimmie Shelter live is overrated. The first minute is great on the live boots from 1972-73 and I love the 1975 version, the intro that is. Buit no it never worked live and yet its a favourite on this board. Dont get it. Salt of the earth is overrated. Its all over now. Maybe Wild horses. Its great but not on of thier top ten songs. Sway of course. Cant you hear me knockin is the most overrated IMO. Yup thats the one.

I agree for Start Me Up studio version, but in the live shows Stones play it excellent. Miss You is very good song.

Some songs were good from the beginning but has been overplayed, either in live shows or on the radio, such as IORR, Tumbling Dice, Start Me Up, Sympathy, You Got Me Rocking, Miss You, Satisfaction.

I think most of these songs are overrated by the Stones themselves.

Most of us also seem to have one or a few songs that are generally praised by both fans and critics and the Stones, but somehow don't really do it for one self. Some great songs just don't do it on a personal level. Others you "discover" after years, others get boring. For me it's got to be Wild Horses too. But I like Gram Parsons' version a lot. Or Angie.

Agree on Wild Horses - except the Saitama version, which is beautiful.
