I wonder how many times the Stones have played Madison Sq. Garden. Not just NYC, but specifically the Garden. How would it break donw witgh the individual Stones? Has Keith been there more than Jagger? Because of the Barbarians? But maybe Jagger was there solo. And did Ronnie go there before Stones with the Faces? And did Charlie play the Garden with the ARMS show?

Jagger has never toured anywhere but Japan and Australasia/Indonesia as a solo artist.

Keith has never played MSG as a solo act. The New Barbarians played one show there in 1979.

Mick and Keith played there at the Concert for New York in 2001.

Charlie and Bill played two shows there in December 1983 on the ARMS tour with an all star band.

The Stones have played there 24 times - a lot but way behind Elton John who has over 50 shows there.

Theyve actually played the Tokyo Dome more often (25 shows on 5 visits since 1990) plus a few London clubs which were played a few dozen times in 1962-64.

Ronnie guested at 3 Dylan shows there in 1986 and also played at the Dylan tribute show there in 1992.

I had to go look this up:
Jagger played the Garden 25 times.
Keith 26 times.
Charlie 26 times.
Ronnie played there 20 times as far as I can see. All the Stones dates after 75; the Faces played there in 11/71, 9/72 and 2/75. What was intersting was to see how the Faces' size of venues exploded after the release of "Every picture". It is also intersting to see that the setlist of the Faces later shows are virtually a matter of the Faces backing Rod for his stuff, then the Faces backing Ron with HIS solo stuff and as an afterthought almost some actual band material. Another item that struck me was that in 72 at the height of the Stones massive insane USA Tour the Faces were ALSO touring the US!
Bill played the Garden 17 times.
DJ 9 times.

it seems like jagger actually has been there the least outside of the Stones. I have not found any guest spots by them. I bet is has happened. E.g. one reads about Keith joining Led Zep on "The Rover" somewhere etc.

Ronnie guested at the ARMS shows at the Garden. The Stones played two songs at the Theatre at MSG at a VH1 special.

I may be wrong, but my guess is that the Rolling Stones as a band played there 22 times.
The 2005 MSG was their 20th (cf. the special event tee)
Add both Jan shows, and it makes a total of 22

I'd honestly no idea until now they had produced t-shirts to 'commemorate' that. I'm laughing with embarrassment for them. Christ almighty. No wonder I dont buy any stuff from their store.

I guess they thought it was a way of making another fast buck and that no one would be bothered to count and prove them wrong. Funny, but I dont recall anyone mentioning that discrepancy before now.

September 13th 2005 was the 20th DATE at MSG, but not the 20th show.
The "t-shirt people" missed the fact that there was a breakfast show on one of the dates in 1969, and another one in 1972.

yep..Ronnie has played MSG 17 times with the Stones. Plus 3 with the Faces = 20. Think thats what hes saying. Plus the 4 Dylan shows mentioned. On the 3 Dylan/Petty shows in 1986, Ronnie played on about 9 songs per night

That's right. I was there, too. And Mick mentioned it during the show that this one (Sep. 05) is there 20th sold out show in the Garden.

Mick Taylor only did a European Tour with Bob (1984).

i think we are forgetting that a couple of the dates in 1972 they played 2 shows in one day

Taylor played there 7 times with the Stones. As Erik says, he only played in Europe with Dylan.

I would imagine that those are the only times hes played there. Cant think of any guest appearances and I doubt any of the artists whose band he would have been a member of would have been big enough to play the venue

When he toured the US with the Alvin Lee Band in 1981 (the same tour where he guested with the Stones in Kansas City), they played an arena tour as the opening act for Black Sabbath. However, they didnt play MSG.

Its definitely wrong. As Erikjjf says, it could be that they meant it was the 20th DATE at MSG, but the 2005 show was definitely their 22nd performance there. On 28.11.69 and 25.7.72 they played two shows each day.

i have seen them the last 9 times at the Garden all very good...they played LC sept s6th 02 i believe

Don't trust official T-shirts. Or official inbformation. It is usually not accurate. Just more or less but hardly 100%. You could buy official T-shirts in 1998 listing Porto Alegre shows with the Stones in Brazil, but they never played there. They planned the shows but it did not happen. The set list from Halifax on official RS.com is listing You Can't Always get What You Want but they never played it because of the bad weather. And so on.
