Funny question !

Yes 43 years,more vinyl,more cds,more dvds,more boots and memories of them than anyone else.I am fond of Dylan too ,42 years nearly as many cds and vynyl as Stones but no boots and I saw him this year I took my 11 year old son and we did not enjoy, too many reworked songs.

Number 1. Rolling Stones. They are the essence of rock to me. It ain`t a band that I have spent more time and money on than the Stones.

After Stones there is a lot of bands and styles that I like. King Crimson in one end and Dead Kennedys in the other end.

A strong number two is Motorpsycho.

Then in no order White Stripes, BigBang, Jethro Tull, Nick Cave, GN`R etc...and a lot of the band that allready are mention on this thread.

but there are lots of great artists out there the doors, the clash, the jam, ccr, john fogerty did a great show this year in london, dylan, t.rex and many many more.

there are two things that make the stones a bit more outstanding than the others
1. as they last for so long they have numerous songs and you can discover them each and every day new.
2. the show. all the other shows i've seen were good to great but at a stones show when the opening video starts and keith is hitting the opening chords everytime i still get chicken skin.

no other band or artist has had this effect on me, so to answer this question again

YES they are and will always be my favourite band and no other will ever come close.

Yes, I wouldn't know who else. But, I'm a little bit bored nowadays. I've seen them too often I think to appreciate stadium gigs like I used to.

Sure, The Stones are my favourite band and artist. I like a lot of artists, but The Stones are in their own league.

Yep, they're my favourites, though I'm struggling at the moment. Guess they've become a life long addiction. Nothing I can do.

Other favourites: 1. Eels; 2. The Black Crowes.

I think this is a good question. With so much carping going on about them it does make you wonder sometimes where people are coming from. However they are my favourite artistes/band by a mile by having that ability to consistently surprise/interest me. I am always on the look out for news/info about them. They aren't above criticism but that doesn't mean I don't love them to death.
PS I am surpised by Cindy C Paula Abdul infatuation - but she does look a bit like Keef I s'pose...

Yes - since I was 10 in 1966.

No 2 ? I don't know. Kinks, perhaps. Lots of bands, but nobody ever came or comes close. And I do listen to a lot of non-rock music like eg Greek Rembetiko ( : the Greek blues ). I don't know how I could ever compare that with the Stones. Wouldn't make sense....

they're a close second behind Freddy & the Dreamers..........i like Gimme Shelter.....but it can't compare to "do the Freddy"

but they have not made it easy: 6 studio releases in 24 years, only 2 of those IMHO have more good songs than bad, the 8 year gap of no touring 1981/82-1989/90, cancellations w/o enough time for me to find out and stop travel, disgusting ticketprices, questionable releases/marketing which should have been classics, and ignoring their better songs from the modern era after a current album tour is done.

of course, there will continue to be missteps and mistakes, and they could even call their next release "the stones hate IORR fan Winter", but because of what they did from 1962-1982 and the 25 or so stones-worthy songs and many additional concert highlights since then, they will always be my longstanding fave.

they have even been my favorite 'artist' during much of the last 25 years, but during lulls of quality or no live shows, 14 others have variously taken that title, depending on my musical obsessions: swervedriver (RIP), smiths (RIP)/morrissey, neil young, pixies, dylan, peter gabriel, royal trux (RIP), the cure, the cocteau twins (RIP), and several veteran artists who returned to form or re-emerged in the mid-to-late '90's: bowie, jeff beck, patti smith, kraftwerk, king crimson.
