How can I get the whole Altamont concert - uncut?
Posted by: KingBee ()

I just know the pieces used in "Gimme Shelter", almost no song in full length,

missing JJF, Oh Carol, I´m Free etc.

So who knows?

I'd be glad to send you the complete show. Audience recording, but very decent quality. drakehatfield@gmail.com

Well one Maysles Bro is dead but the surviving one should put together the entire 1969 show - MSG - on a DVD. That would be the best, much better than Ladies and Gentlemen. Also Disc 2 could be the entire Altamont show - that would be a DVD package to rival the 2 DVD Zeppelin set..... I think Stones fans are ready for it...

I think so - they seem to F up EVERYTHING (but if Goddards "ONE PLUS ONE" AKA SYMPATHY can be put out properly why not '69 and Ladies and Gentlemen? Maybe they wanna save the best for last and stretch it out....Kinda the way THE DOORS are doing it (they have some giant box coming out this fall full of new shit - better be new and fresh)

But due to ABKCO you don't have Stray Cat, Sympathy and other stones songs that could have been put on the dvd.

I do have the GIMME SHELTER DVD with all that on it - the Criterion Collection (or however you spell it) It's great having those extra songs on there but having gone to the 69 LA Forum show (MicksBrain's first big time concert) I can tell you that "MIDNIGHT RAMBLER" was the centerpiece of the show for sure. When Jagger slapped the stage with his belt he meant it on that tour - amazing version !! Also the SYMPATHY/STRAY CAT (3rd/4th songs in the concert song line up) Were GREAT Guitar showcases - listen to the perfect playing on Ya-Ya's during Sympathy or the Stray Cat Blues guitars - very powerful versions. The film GIMME SHELTER (with Bonus songs) Gives you a good taste but really, the whole show deserves to come out. Don't hold your breath.....

Back in 2000 when the remastered DVD was released, Criterion originally wanted to include more outtake material (Stray Cat, Sympathy, Live With Me and a few more songs) but ABKCO refused to give permission.

I saw a boot DVD called Gimmie Shelter and they said it was the whole Altamont show. I don't own the Gimme Shelter Criterion DVD yet due to the $30-$40 price, Is there Altamont footage on that DVD?

There's no Altamont footage, except the official available product.

Yes, there is Altamont footage on the Criterion release:

Sympathy (edited guitar solos)
Under My Thumb
Street Fighting Man (very short footage)
Gimme Shelter (partial audio - no video)

The boot that has the whole concert (audience source) is "The Killer Festival"

What do you mean? The stuff you mentioned is on the official DVD.

Yeah, Eric, you f-ing around? Of course part of the GIMME SHELTER DVD has Altamont on it: SYMPATHY (take one - stopped about 2 minutes into it)/SYMPATHY (take two - entire song)/Prolonged Jagger pleading with the audience - about 5 minutes long/UNDER MY THUMB (after which the stabbing happens/more Jagger pleading)/snippit of STREET FIGHTING MAN/GIMME SHELTER (audio only over the credits). If you don't own the GIMME SHELTER Deluxe DVD (sound is fantastic on it too) go out and get it ASAP (I think you're jiving us Snowman).....

jeepers - everyone seems to be talking about something different -
either that or everyone's talking about the same thing but using different words.

~ of course there's footage from Altamont in the official Gimme Shelter film,
whether you have the Criterion Edition (or whatever it's called) or not -
and that's all the footage that's become available from Altamont.
the Criterion Edition has some nice extras but nothing new from Altamont.

~ the full *audio* of the Altamont show is available, as a pretty good audience recording,
which is what Drake has kindly offered to King Bee

~ and you bet the remaining Maysles Brother ought to release all the footage he's sitting on.
maybe if our Meredith here asks him real nice ... :E

Yeah, I like the part in the recording when the guy in the crowd says he needs out.

"I gotta get outta here. I can't take no more this bullshit, man!"

You can really feel the bad vibes on the recording and hear the many shouts at the Angels from the crowd. The anymosity brewing between the crowd and the Angels... something was bound to happen. The boot recording is a must for anyone that has seen "Gimme Shelter" - they go together as a set.

If anyone else needs a copy you can drop me a line as well. If I am not mistaken it is made up from a couple of different sources but the complete show is there all the same.

Harlito,
I emailed Drake already. If by some chance I don't hear back from him, I'll be in touch. Thanks for the offer! I probably won't check back til Monday, as I rarely get to go online when I'm not at work! Too much to do on the weekends! LOL

I would love to get the version Street Fighting Man without the radio announcer in the middle of the song.

You're too kind, my friend - although the real credit for that torrent site goes to Charlotte (who hosts it) and Macdaddy.

Anyway - I appreciate you uploading it, but just to keep everyone in the picture, we just need you to 'announce' it as well, so that everyone who wants to download it can be aware of it.

Thanks once again for sharing it.
