Why Are They Doing This??
Date: July 28, 2006 14:23

I got this email from Rollingstone.com

"On Friday, July 28th at approximately 3:00PM EDT, the Rolling Stones are broadcasting their concert from Paris straight to your telephone. Call in from anywhere on any phone and Listen Live for 7 minutes for $1.99 USD."

Do we get our money back if Keith and Ronnie flub their riffs?

Do the Stones need this extra revenue?

I don't think U2 would sink this low. It's disappointing.

a quote from Bono on the subject, would certainly be worthwhile.

I'm from New Brunswick, way on the east side of the country. Not too far from Halifax!!

Adrian-L: You asked for a Bono quote. If U2 made you pay to listen to a few minutes of them over a telephone, I think they would donate ALL the $ to charity.U2 seems to be a bit more gracious in their old age.

Oh yeah, the pope of pop music at it again. Bono, stick to making @#$%& music, because you're spending to much time trying to save the world, and your music is suffering terribly!!

true- Bono certainly does his 'bit' for charity, the shameless money-grabbing certainly, isn't as obviously blatant as that of Ms Jagger/Richards.

The Stones stick to making music all the time and their last decent album was Tattoo You.25 years ago.The Stones rather stick to making money.Money overshades the music.

Bono does charity things to be able to lick politicians asses - he suffers from "fame greedness.... - he is a poor working class shit who likes to be famous and nothing else..

U2 has never made a decent album.

Bono doesn't give a @#$%& about anything except for money, just like the Stones. The Stones do this by concentrating on music, Bono does charity shit to sell records. The Stones give a lot of money to charity too, but they don't want everyone to know.

"U2 has never made a decent album".... is a stupid thing to say. Achtung Baby is a classic and changed the face of rock at that time. At the same point in careers the Stones were doing Undercover..... not quite so ground breaking eh!

This phone thing is just the management gragging a bit more lolly. I'd be surprised if the Stones even knew about it!!

Although I think the Who's idea of realising each gig on CD/DVD is superb and one I'm surprised the Stones haven't hyjacked.

What's wrong with this??? I really don't see it. We have the chance to get a good bootleg from this show and all you do is complain. The Stones are, once again, pushing the boundaries for what is possible. And you can certainly just let the show be if you want.

ablett you are right
u2 has done a lot of wonderful albums
achtung baby might be the most important album
in rock history
maybe even much metter than exile
and joshua tree needs no comment

btw its stupid to see a rivality between stones and u2
the stones wont become bigger if people insult u2 here
cause the stones will always be the biggest

I worry about the Stones legacy if they keep just going thru the motions on tours.....I will not pay to see them mail in another show, with a boring setlist, and Ronnie and Keith playing with zero passion or grit.

Some blues bands get better with age, and can still be exciting. I'm going to see Buddy Guy tomorrow, and he still rocks, and plays with passion.

Keith and Ronnie lost that a while ago.

U2 still plays with fire....but will they be able to continue playing that way or will they lose it like the Stones have?

Instead of this phone nonsence, why don't they just sell cds/dvds of each of their shows which most ALL of us would buy up?

via a phone? "a good bootleg" ? Please be serious!! This is 2006, not 1966.

The Stones are,

you seriously think that is 'pushing the boundaries'? Youre confusing innovation (its certainly a relatively original idea) with a quality product (which it isnt). Its not even something you'll be able to listen to more than once.

And you can certainly just let the show
> be if you want.

That bit is true. Its not like people dont have the choice.

yep...loads of artists do it. Maybe thats why they dont. they want to be seen to do something different or 'ground breaking'. Even when its silly.

You can think about it what you want, but I do not see how this can stir so many emotions. I couldn't care less. Might be interesting to try and that's it. Another cash in for them...I don't expect anything like instant live cds or sophisticated web broadcasts... Marketing and PR is the weak point of Stones Inc. imo.

it stirs so many emotions because it again just focuses on how the stones have done nothing but try to exploit all of us "addicts."

7 minute calls?? and you have to keep calling back?? this truly is like a drug dealer peddling smack.

pathetic.

LMAO

Sorry. Count me out. I'll be on "text setlist duty"

If I was Stonesctl I'd demand a switch. By my calculations, he's the poor bastard who gets "Miss You"

I remember when U2 came to Poland 1997 during Popmart Tour they actually lowered ticket prices to make it affordable for everyone to see them live for the first time in our country. I believe they did that also in Czech Republic at that time and you have to know that Popmart was extremely expensive show to stage. Polish tickets cost 17.5$ which was really cheap so I guess Bono doesn't really care that much for money.I can't imagine Stones doing something like that for their fans.
Saying that Bono does charity to sell records is ridiculous. And saying that U2 has never made a decent album is way beyond ridiculous.
