"So this negativism in this thread is just the usual boring stupid thing coming from people liking to bash the Stones......."

How you get to this conclusion is beyond me. I often think journalists know exactly what they're gonna write, even before the show, and I don't trust their reviews at all. Thanks to Dunhill for his detailed review, and thanks for not giving into extasy and being critical.

dunhill, I bet you had too big expectations to this gig. It seems so.
I can't say anything about the gig, I was home by my computer up in Norway last night. But it seems like bv totally disagree with you.

And most of the reviews say it was a great gig.

Duane-o:

I couldn't agree with you more, the 'it's prohibited to be critical' mentality makes me sick sometimes..

Argue with your wife doesn't mean you stopped loving her right, maybe even more

I was there, around 5th row close to the central bridge.
I agree with liddas and bv, and totally disagree with dunhill except for what concerns volume in the first couple of songs (KR 4???? oh god, forgive the guy...).
see you in munich, zurich and nice.

no one prohibits anyone from having a ngeative review here...we all read em over and over again...

BUT if some of us disagree with negative reviews we are (chose one or more of the below);
1)Deaf
2)Retarded
3)ass kissing syncophants that are suspect of being on secret Cohl Payroll
4)Graduates of the Helen Keller School of Musical Arts

Come one guys...we read the negatives...we tend to disagree. The entire event for some of us meant more AS AN EVENT then did some of the mistakes, which have been going on for over 40 years! I spent the day with people I seldom see, hooked up and drank with someone that I have not seen since Licks, and stood in a crowd of 20 years olds that were either at their FIRST OR SECoND Stones show. These people were dancing, screaming, singing along. not a one either noticed or complained about setlists, missed cues, sour solos. They came to have fun and they had fun.Lighten up, its not meant to be an "evening at the pops"

If you pay that much money to see the band it's your right to have big or great expectations and the band should satisfy you. If that's not possible somethings wrong - but not with you but with the band. No excuse. You cannot give someone "a few more weeks" if that person wants you to pay big money to see you perform. You better be good or you shouldn't do it anymore. If you pay 200, 300, 400+ Euros to see a band it's your right to have the best sound and the best performance and the best anything. I don't want to see and hear musicians who are bored on stage or cannot play anymore. I want to see 100% for the hundreds of Euros I pay. That's it.

Yak yak yak. I bet my my balls that you're just one of those sour grapes that has to ruin it for everybody. You say it sucked big time, but when people get a hold of the boot we get to know the truth, which usually means that it rocked. I have experienced this a million times. Don't go to a show if you're a sour grape. That's not what it's all about. It's about having a good time, something you seem incapable of.

What's your problem?
Man, I love the Stones, @#$%& love them.
I didn't say anything bad about them, I didn't say it sucked big time, just that I didn't enjoy the show last night and that it wasn't up to their standards.
If I am not wrong I said Mick rocked so it's not so negative.

Wow, a lot of you people must be fantastic guitarists, experienced in thrilling stadium crowds and trusting your tech and sound crew to get get the sound out front right. I've been playing for over thirty years and play live at least once a week and I'm still well impressed with the Stones live. If you want to hear technicians, go watch Satriani, Vai et al. If you want to see a great rock 'n' roll band, go see the Stones. People used to go see the Stones as a guitar band, then bands like Thin Lizzy came along and the Stones continued on their own direction. I absolutely adore Keith's playing and have been known to become so mesmerised at gigs that I ignore the rest of the band. Yeah, the old arthritis is kicking in, but he seems to have adjusted his technique to suit and, if you think he's a bit rough at times, you should have seen him in '76! Ronnie is a wonderful player when sober. I love some of his solo stuff and regret that he never gets a spot a la Keith at Stones gigs. The stuff he did with the Faces wasn't bad either. Please don't criticise the Stones just because you've heard fancier guitarists - they wouldn't be the Stones otherwise. Listen to some of Jagger's solo stuff with fancy players - is it better than the Stones live? Oh and Mick Taylor wasn't THAT great last time I saw him live!

Nobody said they wanted to see a Satriani or Steve Vai. That's why I always use the Allman Brothers Band as an example, especially the current incarnation. The playing of Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks isn't based on what you've called "technicians." They're solid players with imagination. The improvise melodies and are pretty good at leaving bum notes out.

That said, if you really paid attention the Dickey Betts before he was canned and even since, the guy is not up to par, especially for the music he's playing. Some of his solos can be excruciating. He can't keep up, he plays completely wrong notes, he stops in the middle of solos (Dreams from Houston, 1997 comes to mind) because he loses timing.

I have to assume if I'm doing creative advertising and I produce an advert that looks like shite, my boss is going to call me on it. When I tell him, "oh, I don't understand Photoshop but that's not the point. If you're looking for technician go to Microsoft." It should be the same for a guitarist getting paid millions of dollars. He doesn't have to be Eric Johnson, but I expect him to play solid guitar.

From NME: "They were treated to an Italian language version of 'As Tears Go By', 'Con Le Mie Lacrime', the first time the song has been performed by the band for over 31 years, according to the band".

Shows what they know right? It was never performed, and it's a song that more than 31 years old.

Dunhill, in every land (cyber or otherwise) where freedom of speech is not appreciated best to just step aside and not say anything. You're messing with everyone's fantasies and illusions...you know that Dylan line "I'm Crestfallen/ the World of Illusion is at my door" (TOUGH MAMA off of "Planet Waves") You gotta heed the message. I wanna hear what it was REALLY like and I know nothing lasts forever but I think I'm being out numbered - thanks for the review.....

It WAS performed live (the english version) on Ed Sullivan the same time they did SATISFACTION - 1965 I think...The guys calculator was probably broken -41 yrs ago.

Being a guitarist (or, better, pretending to be one) my self usually I am always somehow more focused on the playing. What's this thing that Keith didn't play well?
He did his usual stuff, and did it very well! Plus, he must have felt Ronnie was covering him well, because he threw in some chops and licks here and there that he doesn't normally play when he needs to keep the show going.

Ronnie, as I said, played very well. It's not a matter of solos. The groove was there. Truly terrific rythm playing.

My only big complaint is that for the first half you could see they were working alot on their guitars, but you could only guess what they were playing.

But a part from that, this band (I mean all of them) is truly the best thing around as far as r'n'r is concerned.

They still are a great Rock and roll band (I think ABB is really strong) but people should be allowed to give their opinion on here without getting stoned...is this a fan site or a fanatical religion where you can't say sh*t?
