Who was it that wrote: "Get over yourself. Seriously?"

"A Bigger Bang" is six excellent-to-solid tracks surrounded by some of the most embarrasing nonsense the Stones have ever used to pad out a record. "Look What The Cat Dragged In," "Neo-Con," and "Dangerous Beauty"--to name three--make me almost sorry that the Stones are still recording.

Meanwhile, "Bridges" had some of the coolest and most innovative stuff the Stones have ever put together. A latter-day triumph.

It'll come to you--with time...

a latter-day triumph? you meant Voodoo Lounge, right? i think you should edit your post, Rev. - you accidently wrote "Bridges."

what´s interesting is what the stones themselfes think about their last album: look what songs they are playing out of it during this tour......so they do not seem to convinced, too....

b2b I found really great,

I wonder how the Stones themselves see a new album. As just an addition to the large amount of songs they've put out over the years or as a collection of songs that belong together. If that's the case I wonder why they chose to release 18 songs this time around. They didn't do much to promote it, don't play lots of new songs live and even record video's when the song is on the way out of the charts.

Abb as just new songs that enable them to go on the road behind new material. A addition to potential live material. In a few years we'll be able to tell which songs are forgettable and wich hold their own in the Stones history. Probably just Laugh I Nearly Died.

Look What the Cat Dragged in is probably my faorite song the Stones have done in the past 20 years. Biggest Mistake and She Saw Me Coming are two I would have left off the album.

You're right about Look What The Cat Dragged In. You're wrong about She Saw Me Coming. You're a bit correct and a bit wrong on Biggest Mistake.
All in all, I'll give you C+.

Thank you for the grade. I just never got She Saw Me Coming, it has potential but don't see anything great about it. Look What The Cat is the Stones at their best and I am really surprised so many people don't like it.

If you promise to give She Saw Me Coming several listens this evening, I'll change your grade to B-
because of your remark about people neglecting it out of jealousy.
Signed: Principal Joe.

LWTCDI sounds to me like it could be the theme song to a children's cartoon.Dangerous beauty starts out a little uneven but,it gathers steam as it goes on.Some of the guitar passages are pretty strong and remind me of those on the Undercover album.

mr edward:

This time out, as contractual obligation? Just a thought.
Are they done with Virgin at all now?

clearly it's no longer a labor of love, but rather an obligation in order to be seen at all as legitimate on the road with another tour. no way they'd even bother otherwise....

Probably true.

When YOU can write a better album than this, then you can talk...

Otherwise, keep it to yourself....

Bs comment. If that were the policy here, nobody would be allowed to voice an opinion on whatever subject.

But what is the criteria, other than he doesnt like it. Its a great album. The songs are well crafted, excellent lyrics. I always hated critics...in 1972, the critics panned Exile On Main Street. I just hate all the negativity on this site. Why would anyone write such a thing on a Stones site?

Me thinks this thread sucks too, stone-relics.
It's completely allright to not like a Stones-album, but it's so stupid to start a thread about "..... stinks."
If it was a discussion going on, then you could mention that you don't like that song/album....but a thread?

REM stinks, and so does Bon Jovi and Green Day. But I wouldn't walk around with flags with this statement. I'll just turn the radio off if it's being played.

Well, it's just another reviewing thread, though the opening statement is a bit off. I wouldn't start a thread like this, but I am always willing to talk about a Stones album.

crybabies !!!!,everyone was so happy when ABB came out ,we had new product ,we should be happy to have a album at all PS,I think a better edit would have made it better, same thing with voodoo

ABB is almost great, like Voodoo Lounge.

B2B sucks big time - how disappointed was I listening to that when it first came out?!?! I also remember that the Special Edition wasn't special at all, having only a slightly different CD label if I remember right.

I love it. If it stinks then give it away to someone who can appreciate it!

Wow.
If I knew it was gonna scar itself into your permament memory I wouldnt have said it, I promise!

Oops, with this sentence alone you show you still need a good dose of getting over yourself.

stones-relic:

>>I always hated critics<<

I love 'em!

Why if you hate them so much, you can even take the opposite course of what they say and use it to help you in your right decisions... (Like what I certainly will do the next time Phillipe Manoeuvre goes crazy over a new Stones or Stones-related album!!)

>>in 1972, the critics panned Exile On Main Street.<<

If you go back a few pages here, someone testifies with specific examples that this is a myth. Just for the record.

>>I just hate all the negativity on this site<<

Boy are you a fan of the wrong band these days...

"I find it funny that people on this board go from one extreme to the other so much-- and maybe if some of you didnt listen to ABB like crazy when it came out you wouldnt think it sucks now. Even Exile has an overkill point."

Couldn't have put it better Some Girl. When things are built up too high in the first place it's only a matter of time until you get the backlash. I still think it's the best album since 'Tattoo You' though.

Re: ABB STINKS

Does not!

ABB is a really good album and every time I listen to it (soon a year)
I get a really good feeling about it!
Of course some songs have fallen into the background and I don't listen to them as much as I used to.

But in general it's a really great album + the bonus tracks on the dvd!

Produce one more album like that and do some good job on the marketing then
the Stones will be up in top again! Despite everything (oh god I'm nearly whining again)

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

agreed. even nikkibong, who is CONSTANTLY (and obnoxiously) accused of "negativity," has never done such a thing.

Ha! "Scar itself?" Not exactly, babe. Who, exactly, needs to get over oneself?

I sorta like gettin' roughed up by a real rawkin' chick like yourself.

Besides, I look at it thusly: Once you give up Aerosmith or Journey or Nickleback or whatever it is that makes you think that "A Biggger Bang" is anything more than (mostly) fourth-rate, well, you have years in which to develop an ear for good music.

You're fiesty, though. Lotsa attitude.

Ok- as author of the "Stinks" title, I'll add some more commnetary regarding where I'm coming from-

The Stones are my fav group by a million miles. I listen to them more than every other artist combined. B Dylan being a distant second.

Robert DeNiro is my favorotie actor to the same degree- but I think "Meet The Fockers"- STINKS. He may never do another "Raging Bull" or "Deerhunter" but he is still capable- and when he comes out with something that stinks- I'll say "it stinks"

ABB is better than most of the other stuff that anyone has put out in the last year. But I think Keef once said something like, "The Stones don't put out average albums". That was around the time Bill put out his first solo album. I don't listen to much post Tatoo You Stones, beacuse something is missing. Maybe all teh solo stuff has tapped into the well. It ahs nothing to do with Ronnie vs MT either. Ronnie is great. So is MT.

The best album since Exile is Some Girls. The best since Some Girls is Tatto You. The best since Tatto You, well.......it's not ABB.

Maybe the songs just don't mean much to me. Maybe I'll edit the Title to "ABB is a below average effort by the Greatest R&R band of all time, but I still like some of it......"

Peace>>>>>

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Anyone who bitches about this LP is out of their F*CKING mind . This is one of the best efforts in a long time . I've been a fan since '65 and thev last Lp I really liked as soon as it was released was " Some Girls " , I think ABB is a fine effort and the Stones should be congratulated on their work ! ! !

I agree completely with bigfrankie, something is missing from the Stones post Tattoo You output.
