ABB STINKS

ALready- as much as I want to like ABB, I just can't.

I've listened to it a million times and IT STINKS. And I'll also fess-up, since Tattoo You the Stones have out out mediocre stuff. If you took the best 2 or 3 songs from each album, MAYBE they could equal one great album.

Something happened when Mick and Keef had that split. Its like getting a divorce and then getting abck together- It has not been the same. GHS and IORR are a zillion times better than ABB.

ABB STINKS. STINKS......STINKS........

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

I agree that ABB isn't the great "best since..." album people are trying to make it out to be but,it doesn't stink by far.
The only studio album that consisted of mostly "mediocre stuff" since TSMR has been Dirty Work but, even that one had the excellent One Hit and a few other good songs. The songs on Steel Wheels are mostly fine,it just has a dated production sound to it.Bridges To Babylon is the most recent great album.
Don't let this board or the Stones business practices get to you.

It doesn't stink but it is not that good. I can't like it either. I have tried several times. That should say something. One shouldn't even have to try. Last great Stones album was UC. SW, DW and ABB can be lumped into the same category. VL and BTB are really good. But the Stones lost it after UC. Became too slick. After UC, BTB and VL are the best and in that order.

You couldn't have listened to it a million times. if you listened to it all day every day since release, that's only 121,878 times possible. Unless you listen to it on 8 different cd players simultaniously. Don't exaggerate to that extent on this site!

I'm sure bigfrankie REALLY meant a million times. JJ Flash you must be really bored to have sat there and figured this out. Still funny, though.

ABB is not all that bad, although i do agree that tattoo you is the best by FAR
since 81, with VL coming in second

No. Abb is the best since VL, and VL as the best since Exile. Right after comes B2B, B&B, TY, SG.

ABB ROCKS, and if you can't hear it you either wearing cotton in your ears, or you're not a fan.

ABB and VL are both great albums in the post-Tattoo You era, UC and SW are okay, DW and B2B both really have little to redeem them apart from the odd good song (I'm thinking One Hit and Out of Control for its live potential here).

So I'm with JKF on this one - ABB ROCKS!!!

Re: ABB STINKS

ABB is a very good album. Exile 'sucked' when it came out - or so thought many of the critics. A classic takes time to happen. Give ABB more time. Then again, time has passed by the Stones. No matter how good any new album will be, it can never be good enough any more.

ABB is no classic- but it's no stinker, either.
It is a document of where the band are in their 5th decade- and has been a launchpad, for the Tour, and all it's financial spin-offs.

It is not an album I can take seriously. There is too much filler, too many "Doesn't this song sound a bit like......." kind of stuff etc.
They should have used a different producer and a different studio - it might have made all the difference.

I don't mind ABB, but I don't think it's a GREAT album. It's miles from being good enough to be in the top 15 of the greatest Stones-albums imo. Who are you to tell me I'm not a fan just because I don't think "ABB ROCKS" particularly (compared to better things)?

ABB is mediocre at best when compared to albums like Tattoo You, Some Girls, or any pre-1981 material at all. Sure there is some decent stuff on it, but it , as an album, pales in comparison. I can't listen to it anymore..it doesn't 'do it' for me at all. I'm content with my 20,000th hearing of Exile or LIB. Now THOSE were good albums...no....GREAT albums that just never get old.

Tried hard to like ABB but in my opinion it only has about 8 decent songs on it - the rest are below par filler. At least you can programme the CD player and get a reasonable album that way

You are wrong, JumpingKentFlash: I do >not< have cotton in my ears, I >am< a fan, and I still can't enjoy the bulk of aBB either...

I am just glad so many fans think like me after all, on the wake of the rebirth hype.

Most of aBB sounds like Stones-by-number: worst still, like the canvas was designed by a "clown face artist"!

It's just very loud...

But hey, you are still entitled to fandom if you enjoy it!... :O)

I hope you don't mean you are glad that many people do not like ABB? That would be rather sad. Hope I am mistaken in my interpretation.

I just took another sniff, and i am sure my ABB-album doesn't stink.

Besides that, I really like it, except for only a few ones.

The thing I like best about ABB is that it reminds me of how magical the rest of the Stones catalogue is.

No, just glad I am not alone after all, you know that feeling - out on a limb...

Right, not only would it be sad, but also masochistic on my part since I went out and bought the CD.

The thing I like best about ABB is that it reminds me how great The Stones are on studio materials, which did not happen since SW or TY. Though they are 4 to 5 fillers in its content.

Well, I agree that ABB doesn't smell like rose water, but would you seriously expect that from any rock n roll record?

My copy does not exactly smell strong, so I would not say ABB "stinks".

Honestly, I believe it's a solid album. I was a bit more enthusiastic when it came out, but now, after the dust has settled, I must say that it belongs to the kind of albums that haven't grown since initial listenings, at least not for me. Like Dirty Works. Or Emotional Rescue. In my book, ABB is better than those two, but I quickly lost interest in listening to it on a regular basis. It has a couple of great tracks (again, like EM or DW), a couple of good ones (although nothing more than Stones by numbers) and a couple of...well, not exactly stinkers, but lesser tracks who don't do much for me.

How can anyone feel the urge to start a hate-thread about an album ?
It's so silly.

My copy smells minty fresh, like a nice spring day! But seriously, I've only listened to it once from beginning to end. Nowadays, I just listen to select songs because I only want to hear the ones that I really like. It's no classic but then again, it doesn't stink either. Just my opinion. smiling smiley

I wouldn't say it stinks... ONNYA, Let Me Down Real Slow, Laugh I Nearly Died and Look What the Cat... are some of the better songs they have written over the past few decades.

Biggest Mistake is not very good, good choice for a single huh..

The comments in this post sound like every album review the Stones have received since Goat's Head Soup.
