Tombstone - Interesting story between Bowie & Stevie Ray - Bowie got introduced
to Stevie at a Stones party, Stevie got to play by way of Mick old flame:
Jerry Hall (from Texas - she knew of Stevie)

Word was the Stones wouldn't let Stevie stop playing, they liked him so much!
Bowie talked Stevie into recording with him, One of Bowie's biggest sellers:
Let's Dance
(song from that album: Cat People - Putting Out Fire - smokes with Stevie on Lead!)

Things were going great between the two and a tour was planned, they rehearsed
I have a CD recording of one of those rehearsals!
then days before they were to start Stevie asked what he would be paid.
Bowie answered: Union Scale - Stevie said: FXXX You to that Penny-Pinching
response, and that ended that. Stevie always held a grudge again Bowie,
felt very USED!!

Didn't read through every one of these posts but most of them and I didn't see anyone mention Roy Buchanon. He was the man.

Also I am not really a fan of his music but Prince is quite the guitarist.

From a jazz point of view I like Grant Green and Wes Montgomery's stuff a lot.

H-Dog - Ever hear of: Danny Gatton?

Quite a legend around the Wash DC area, when he finally released a CD
it did very well, and his Record Co. pushed him to release another. He did
and the 2nd one didn't do good sales-wise.. Danny committed suicide.

Such a sad story!!

i'm desperatley lost on why james hetfield and springsteen are in your list. springsteen when he plays with the e street band which was almost his whole career plays on the guitar for about 30 minutes out of the 3 hour show. the rest of the time its hanging there or he strumming one note. james hetfield Never solos. he plas the riff of the song the whole time. or at least he did before '92. so what are they doing that impresses you?

Richard Lloyd......that seems to somehow remind me of Robert Quine - lost, tortured soul - how could I forget him? ;-)

With Blood Ulmer it is hard because lots of his stuff has gone out of print. He isa big black African dude, who plays completely his own style. It is very percussive. In the 80's he went on a bender fro Black Rock. he put out an album called "Black Rock" that is INCREDIBLE! That is where I would start. Later he went out with Ornette. He is just wild.
LLoyd, I would begin with television. Simple as that. Agree that he does remind one of Quine too.

In 5 pages, one guy I don't think was ever mentioned... and he's one of the most interesting guitarists I've ever seen live... incredible speed and fluidity... never heard him get lost... incredible medley ability...

Not to mention one of the greatest "lefties" of all time...

Elliot Easton, formerly/now of the Cars, with a long stil as solo guitarist with Creedence Clearwater Revisited... he made those Revisited concerts so incredibly special with 8 minute renditions of Heard it Through the Grapevine, etc...

Fantastic guitarist.
