I like both, but I have to go with 78.

'81 for it's cleaner bass sound and overall nicer guitars.

Also the sax solo really tops it off.

'78's great.

yeah, I agree that 81 has an overall clearner sound, and the sax is great.

but theres something about 78 I like. part of it is the funky electric piano,
the Intro is cooler too.

78 is the pure version. The riff is clean and clear. It also doesn't have that annoying sax from Ernie Watts. 78 is the true beast...Richards riff carries the song as opposed the current version which is carried by the keyboards. Long live the 78 tour!

long live the 78 tour? it died in '79.

I thought they played this better in 78. Ronnie was also in better shape and you can hear it throughout the tour. Some good versions though in 1981. This has always been a great live song.

i go for the 81 version.

I think the 81 version was too fast, and Jagger spitted out the lyrics, instead of articulate them in a cool/sarcastic way, as he did in 78.

Overall I think the 81 tour sounds better than the tour in 78. But I wasnt at any shows. Love Hampton while I think Handsome Girls boot is good.

I think Shattered was too fast in 81. the slower 78 version was nice and funky. what Im about to say is controversial, but I think on this tour the way they played it reminded me of 78, becasue it was slowed down.

I love the version from 81 That is on the Flashpoint bonus CD.

"still life" it's so fake and so pretty. "shattered" version it's the same that virginia (LSTNT too, but with a different finale), but i didn't listened every track compared from the original. satisfaction from phoenix it's the original version.

Saw them both.......each had its own greatness.........if I could relive one I would go with "78".

is the phaser what gives the gituar a kind of distorted sound? I think I hear the same effect on the 78 version.

81 is more stadium-formatted

Both are fanatastic!
The '81 version is faster and with a great sax solo by Ernie Watts. Some of you don't like his sax playing but i'm a big fan of it. The sax solo, for me, is the highlight of the Rarities version!
The '78 version is the ultimate weaving version wich i like a little bit more. On handsome girls 1 it's just perfect! The version on HG3 is also great because it's a bit slower.

It was probably used in '78 as well but,the '81 version had the combination of the phaser and the horns and the different lyrics which is fine but,overall they (the '81 versions) sounded the least like the Some Girls version.

yeah, I would like to add that although theres things about the 78 version I like more, I still love the 81 versions Im famlilair with on rarties and on Lets spend the night togeth. with saxaphone.

and speaking of phasers, you can really hear the phaser on the live Finger Print File.
