Last Saturdays Daily Mail (uk) - had another in depth interview with the old man, ranting away as usual. Says he's down to his last 2 million and the up-keep of his three houses is £500,000 per year, which is draining his bank account. Says the Stones told him he would miss out on £20 million when he left the band, but he didn't care, never felt part of the band anyway and had Mandy problems.
He says he has to keep working flat out to maintain his lifestyle.
(Also said the Stones had sold out and were boring, Jagger was jealous of the 10,000 women he had shagged and he didn't deserve his knighthood - but we heard that all before).

I doubt Bill saying all those things (Jagger being jealous...)

I don't know what to believe. He still gets royalties from all the stuff that he played on, and he was a full member as Mick,Keith and Charlie, so if he is going broke it shows he is bad business man, or he ias not telling the thruth.
Anyway, is hard to feel sorry for someone in his position.

i think this is just cRAP...as a founding memeber bill still get a little cash from the stones for the records he played on..don't have the paper i read it on years ago..but when the stones formed rolling stones inc. he was a shareholder in the company...like brian jones was to get $100,000 a year for life..

Bill Wyman is just an idiot. Sorry to hear his restaurant or his pathetic new band don't allow him to maintain his old lifestyle.

2 million ain't broke, much of the Jagger Richards fortunes have accumulated due to song royalties, & the remaining Stones have as many more tours (& more extensive tours) in the past 12 years - US '94, '97-98, '99, '02-03, '05-'06 - than in the previous 22 (US '72, '75, '78, '81, '89), and we all know ticket prices have had to keep up with inflation as best they could.

If he is having money troubles with his millions and the royalties that he gets from the Stones, I don't feel sorry for him one bit. Wish I had that kind of money to blow!

I think he is cool in an idiotic way. He's really playing the old bitter man but somehow he gets away with it, in my eyes. Dunno why. Maybe he has depth. Genuine somehow.

That Daily Mail article is a classic example of the press distorting what he ACTUALLY said in a television interview on BBC Breakfast TV some days earlier.

Doesn't Bill get quite a large sum in royalties? I don't know how much but I guarentee it's over half a million.

Why do the Stones still do it you ask? Obvious - they have to. The "lifestyle" doesn't pay for itself.

Bill's a great bassist, musically self-effacing just like Charlie, his partner in the greatest rockin riddim section around for 30 years, as essential to the Stones' sound as Entwistle was to the Who, or Jack Casady to the Airplane, or McCartney to the Beatles...

I read his last book and he was not bitter at all. Very good book. Let him do whatever he want with his money. If he was only out for the money he would continue in the band. After all he was an importent part in the greatest rock `roll band ever.

Perhaps he needs to sell one or two of his three houses. 500k per year for upkeep on the three places? Must have a few full time employees at each place.

Bill made the decision at the time to leave and that was it at the time. He may have to change his lifestyle to keep one place.

I hope this isn't a problem with him or any of the others. Remember.....back in the 60's they did STRUGGLE to make ends meet.

Which raises the question........what is MT's financial situation. Bill Wyman had stated that MT was broke and living with his mom in the mid to late 90's, which I find unbelievable but then again he does not play for long periods of time so he must have some cash. On the other hand I did read that he was flat broke in the early 80's and sold his future royalties for $50K.
Alos, is he still a shareholder in RS records?
