crap support bands for Europe

As expected, the support bands that have been announced for europe are predominantly a load of crap.

Jesus, why do we have to put up with light airy fairy pop rubbish when we're going to see a Stones show, I want Rock music with balls. every now and again they put a good rocking band in place. but jesus.

most of the bands they have supporting are the wrong side of the pop/rock divide.

I liken the bands to soft porn, got the right idea, but just doesn't deliver the goods. I want the real deal, Acca Dacca, G'n'R etc at least these bands deliver.

and it's not just oldies, Danko Jones, Tokyo Dragons, Beautiful Creatures, these are relatively new bands that verily rock. get these on the bill! not the weak as piss stuff thats been announced

You're right. I feel like we're being dumped, looking at their opening acts in North America.. I hope we'll get something cool in Holland.

Went to see G'n'R when they went on a treck a few years ago - clearly expecting the worst. and except for the worst guitar solo in the history of man. the show was a real winner.

all my hairy assed mates even had to admit, some even though begrudgingly, that it was a great rock show, with the new songfs played being really strong.

If memory serves they also played five new songs. even though they hadn't even released a new record. now even the Stones are doing that with a brand new album out.

By the way, most epople who have decried G'n'R over recent years since Axl left, generally:

A) weren't big fans in the first place. or
cool smiley haven't seen them over recent years.

I got a feeling those that like rock music and get the chance to see them over the summer will generally be impressed: see this years Donnington festival - lots of new Guns fans will be leaving that place after the weekend!!

well, who cares about support really? You come there to see The Stones or the support bands? And Charlatans is very nice group I bet it was Ronnie's idea to have the on the list!

Well, lets see, up to £150 to go to a rock concert, yeah, i'd like to think i'd be getting a little more bang for my buck if the support band was worth watching.

most gigs in arenas are no more than £30-£35, and most of the time at least two bands, main attraction plus support compliment each other very well, which contributes towards a overall enjoyble experience.

recent shows

Def Leppard & Cheap Trick
Judas Priest & Scorpions
B.B King & Gary Moore
Alice Cooper & Dio
Danko jones & Tokyo Dragons
Love/Hate & Zodiac Mindwarp

these are just off the top of my head, but it's common practice to have support bands which compliment the main attraction.

Know it sounds like i'm bitching, but i never complain about the song selection, length of set list, sound quality or anything else. - feel a bit left out on this board if I have absolutely nothing to moan about!

Danko Jones is great,

I would love to see them support the Stones. Saw 'em twice - fast & hard rockin'

GnR would be the worst case scenario for me^^

I think the support bands are great. I just saw the charlatans last night at brixton acadamy in london, it was a GREAT show. They are a great band, rock/indie, definitely a good support for the stones. There album from a few years ago, 'us and us only' has major stones influences. They deliver big time.

Kaiser chiefs are HUGE right now, even though im not a big fan.

C'mon guys, we're going to see the stones, and the way i see it, if the support is good, then its a bonus.

You dont get any choice but to be there early to get a good position.

There for would like a good warm up band to start things as I will be stuck watching them whether I want or not.

Maybe they need these crappy bands to open for them so they look extremely good.

Crap? I assume you speak for yourself. GnR are selling out many places on their own. Charlatans are great. People have different taste obviously. By the way I never care about who is the warmup. I go early to see them but I buy the ticket to the show for only one reason - THE STONES.

"It's all about filling the stadiums with young kids." That's rubbish because NO ONE of the young kids will pay 100 € and more to see their band playing 30 or 40 minutes before the grandfathers of rock'n roll. They can see a complete show of them (and of them only!) in a club or arena for 20 or 30 €. So these mediocre support acts will not attract any additional yound kid to the show.It worked with AC DC or with some really popular local bands (Die Toten Hosen in Düsseldorf, BAP in Cologne and....yes, I hate to say this ... Böhse Onkelz in Hanover). To fill the stadiums in Germany they have to find a much better solution than these crap bands they have announced for other European shows. Well, so far they have only announced G&R for two shows. I wonder what they will do about the other six German shows. They definitely have to find real ticket boosters for the shows in Hanover and especially Berlin which is selling very, very slowly. The only shows in Germany where they really don't have to worry seem to be Cologne and Frankfurt.
Besides, I agree with Bjoernulf, I don't care who is supporting them, I go for the Stones, but obviously there are not enough people who feel the same. And to attract 20 000 more per show they have to pick other bands than the Kasa...whatever.

And .. most of the Stones fans don't listen to the supporting act anyway.

Sad ...... for these bands.

they should'nt have a supporting act at all.

They should have a supporting act and these guys I recorded should be it. I think that the European audience would appreciate it - has blues and R&B sound going - and its fresh, under the radar, and ready.

If you agree or disagree I would like to hear either way
