Chuck Leavell statement to the European setlist
Posted by: Gangster-of-love ()

Yesterday I wrote an e-mail to Chuck and suggested that they could take off 2 warhorses from the setlist and that they should replaced by 2 rarities or undone numbers as a benifit the all of us who wanna hear something 'new' on the setlist.

Here you can read Chucks official answer, which I've got today:

Joerg....believe me, man...I'll do my best for Europe!

> Mick to do some

What does Mick expect the audience to do if they play an obscure song - rush out the stadium screeming, "AGHHHH, NO - MY EARS, MY EARS..."

Well, it seems to be that he has his own point of view, concerning this point.

it's great that he finds the time to respond in this way, to the fans,
but is he not just humouring you/us???
- maybe i'm just cynical.

After some hard labor we delivered IORR:s wish list.
Shidoobee-board's wish list was delivered at the same time.
That resulted in Stones airing Sway.

Maybe it's time for a new Setlist Wish Thread...
What do you guys think?

I feel comfortable by the fact that Mick is still the commander in chief. But on the other hand, the argument does not convince me at all as The Stones played at 90% arenas in the US. Anyway, Chuck is a nice person. I had the opportunity to talk 2 mn with him before the 2nd Wembley Stadium show in 99, while he was walking around the band's truck. Amiable people

I have politely written Chuck before several shows requesting songs currently in the rotation but played infrequently and he gotten at least half of them in at the requested show. He is doing his best. If you ask for things they have not practiced (ie Dear Doctor) or things not ready for prime time (CYHMK) you'll have no luck, but it has worked for things like Bitch, ADTL, MR, PIB, RT and Sway & WAY at ATL2.

Its great that Chuck is pushing Mick like this, gotta give it to the guy, he knows what the hardcore Stones fan want and he is trying his best to deliver. However, the stadium thing could be a problem and lead to greatest hits sets every night, but hopefully Chuck can tell Mick about all the fan mail he is getting about the set lists. Maybe Chuck can just start playing a song like We Love You and hope everyone follows, yeah right, Mick and Keith probably don't even remember that song.

I also sent Chuck an email but have not heard back from him. Did you guys send an actual email or just type something to him in that box that says send us your comments.

Guys, come on....Chuck knows that we have horrible ticket prices in Europe for the stadium shows, and I belive when he says that he'll do his best for a little change as a tribute to us and this f****** ticket prices.
Let's see what'll happen in Barcelona; perhaps we'll see a change for the better!

I talked to Chuck at the Stones hotel after they flew in from Las Vegas 2 nights before the Forum show. I asked him for Sway at the Forum show and he told me he'd consider that as a request. I was very happy 2 nights later when I got to hear this song, so while I don't think they played it that night just because I requested it, contacting Chuck is an excellent way to let him know what hardcore fans really want to hear.

I also mentioned that it would be great if they started playing She's A Rainbow again and he said he'd love to play that one. Hopefully he can convince Mick to add that into the setlist, perhaps for the return to the U.S. in the fall since it will be back to arenas then.

haha,i'm with you here Lukester, sometimes it takes me minutes to figure it out... is it so hard/timetaking to just type the song or at least one word of it, like ' jumping' hey we'll know what you mean...

i'm glad chuck leavell is so responsive/open to fans suggestions/input...

it really is like he is our conduit to the band..

i used to be a bit down on him becuause of his keyboard tone (too clean and sprightly) but i'm now going to overlook that.. anybody that responds to as many of these ridiculous emails complaining about set lists is aces in my book

The "warhorses" get everyone into a groove becaue they are instantly recognizable and pumps the crowd up, Mick feeds off the crowd, so it is logistcally reasonable that "warhorses" make for an energetic show to Mick.

Dpnt want to put haze around your luck;
but the fact three major Stones boards thru StonesDoug
reached Ron, Keith & Mick with the very same no 1-requested song (Sway) might also influence a bit here.

actually, chuck has been lobbying Keith to bust out little t & a for a long time. apparently keith just won't go for it.

I say: Skip Get Up (fotget it & bury it); and
let KR do You Dont Have To Mean It instead...
...And All hail Chuckie; support the man
to make him push Jagger from the worst braindead
football-choir-rock twist MJ might stuck into.

You Don't Have To Mean It has been played in 97, 98, 99, 02 and 03.
I say leave room for something new/different.

I don't understand why Keith doesn't do that song. I don't think it's that hard to do technically, is it?

Have to argue with you for once, Erik!
YDHTMI is new for me and for many others.
Not everybody have seen like 50 shows live or whatever you have!

Maybe Keith doesn't feel like playing it for the 4th consecutive tour.

T&A or YDHTMI?
If we take YDHTMI its just a matter of figures:
97-99 is in a sense one tour, right?
02-03 one. And what is six years in a 43 year old groups history?

You Don't Have To Mean It.
I consider B2B 97/98 to be one tour and NS 99 a different one.
