Hang On To Me Tonight

From Wanering Spirit we always talk about "Evening Gown" as the greta ballad. Which it is by all means. But "Hang on" is another excellent tune.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

It's good as well, but a bit more standard IMO than Evening Gown, which is marvellous.

Agree completely, such a great tune. Wandering Spirit is a classic.

I could go either way with the harp solo - but it's a precursor to the style that Mick would employ on LARS a couple of years later.....

It's just a lovely lovely song, I wish he hadn't kicked it off from the Webster Hall setlist, would love to hear it live.

magnificent............soaring............rich...........complex......HOTMT is a real highlight on Wandering Spirit...............it pushes Mick big time and the end results speak for themselves............

I adore this one. - Ah honey while there's youth upon your face...

It's just such a pretty, slightly sad song.

When this record came out, I used to play it at work a lot. This one girl wasn't a Stones fan at all. She heard me playing this song one day, and fell in love with it. So she started borrowing my cd a lot. Then she started borrowing all of my Stones cds. Her favorite was Out of Our Heads.

I like how that one song got her interested in the Stones and created a fan. It just melts your little heart, doesn't it - when you hear about another one crossing over to our side?

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I always like "converting" someone who hasn't gotten the Stones before.

Yeah, it's fun. I've been teaching my boyfriend lately. He wasn't so receptive before, but now i've got him listening to Beggar's Banquet when I'm not even around.

And..... a commercial came on the other day with Snoopy on it. My son says "Hey, where's Charlie Brown? Or is it Charlie Watts?".

Yeah, it's good to be the king.

I can't tell you how hard it was not to answer you email something fresh like.
he hasn't got as high as my hand yet. didn't I show remarkable restraint? :-)

Clever words re. the harp solo T&A. I could also go both ways on the solo, but it really shows once again what a good musician Jagger really is. He covers it, right? What I dig about his harp style from Day 1 was that unlike Brian he never took the cerebral approach to the instyrum, ent. As accomplished as Brian's playing was, I preferred Jagger in the Blues because he just blows and bends. 2,3 notes at @ time. But like T&A says on HOTMT and LARS he does the very melodic, single note solo. I am actually amazed to see him do the LARS solo on one of those small harps; would have though that he would use one of those gigantic Hohner deals LOL

I love both songs the same, but there is another great one on "Spirit". Guess which one ...

Handsome Molly?

Arrgfh! How I hate that "Molly" crap. It's not the song, it is Jagger thinking that he has to do a song like that. WTF! Never in his whole life has he evr talked about a love for Irish tugger jigs, or whatever that is. Weren't the Pogues big back then? That would explain Jagger wanting to put that on there.
There is this near perfect Rock album, that is marred by that ending.

I always liked to think he put it on there because Keith said something about Primitive Cool like "He might as well have done an album of Irish jigs" :-D

Hang On To Me is a brilliant song, hands down. Wandering Spirit: the best Stones album of the post Tattoo You era . . .

Mick's best ballad VOX since Worried About You. (though 'evening gown' and 'almost hear you sigh' come close)

Always loved that track. It was one of the first tracks I played with my band that started going these days in 1990/91.
