haven't heard the tokyo yet, but was listening the the LA forum version - Ronnie's best effort on it to that point, anyway. As fer Mick, well, he's still searching for the right vocal....

Know exactly what your talking about.

That's where a difference in venue really makes a difference. Say the Lauderdale audience vs. an MSG audience.

i don't buy that argument at all. if you even a reasonably knowledgable fan you've heard SF a few times in your life. a friend of mine phoned me from Ft.Lauderdale and it was pretty evident even over the phone that the fans were digging Sway from the beginning.

Mick is improvising and that makes some trouble for the beat and the drive of Sway. I think he wants to do it with a bluesy or jazzy style. Ronnie had two great solo parts in it and I could not expect any more. Well I will take it at every show of course, if I could, and I think they will play it more and more, because it is a challenge in itself. For them. Otherwise we would not discuss it at all. By the way Mick was on a long walk on Bitch. Don't know what happened then. Long parts of the song he did not sing only na-na-na etc.

BV - that has to be your most negative post of the year! Congrats....I hope the Stones don't dock you for it ;-)

Well,it looks like it is improving the more they work at it.It's too bad that they didn't start earlier in the tour.

Sway has been one of the highlights of the tour simply because they are taking the time and trouble to do something different. Some nights it has had rough patches but it is sounding better and better. Hats off to the Stones for continuing to play this one.

Good observation! IMO, this is the big difference between Mick and Keef. I really wonder how the band would have sounded if Mick was the band leader. I mean Keef certainly has his limitations (technical) as a guitar player, but it's also a matter of taste. We know Richards can pull it off like on Heartbreaker from Brussels '73 or Midnight Rambler. For some reason Keef wants to keep things very simple, sometimes for the better, and others not. That's why they didn't play Sway before now.

The rhytm part of this song is probably a challenge both for Keef and Charlie, but of course they will make it work. It's getting better every show. I think doing songs like Sway will make the band play better in general. They need to challenge themselves and continuing what they started in '69, - a time when they wanted to be not just the biggest, most selling, but the greatest! I'm not trying to say that the Stones isn't greatsmiling smiley but I mean they still have potential. It would be cool if they worked a litle more as musicians and a litle less as actors. Of course the Stones is about putting on a big show, but I also think most people comes for the music...
I hope Jagger get more of his blues & jazz, - the band needs it!

mick does not sing sway with any where near the emotion of the album version
the whole point of the song is the screaming vocals of the album version
which this 05-06 version is lacking, although it is a pretty good version,
same goes for soul survivor, which is probably why we wont be hearing that
anytime soon

i liked the first live-attempt on sway the most. esp. micks vocals. feel a bit lonely with that opinion-sad.

<The rhytm part of this song is probably a challenge both for Keef and Charlie>

When Jagger nailed the rhythm part in 1971, Keith should pull it off now - and IMO he does.

If Mick sang it like the Original version his voice would be shot.
He pushed himself to new heights on SF/Exile IMHO.

Sway seems to be getting better and better (that's what a little "work" will do, right?)...and with RW actually awakening from his decades-old stupor (see my other post if you like), I should expect to see this one become a real bonafide staple of the European tour....
