There's a song from a couple of years ago from an great artist from Memphis named Will Hoge. It's called "Rock n Roll Star" and includes the line "Who cares if Mick Taylor was even in the Rolling Stones?"

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but, if I remember correctly- Lenny Kravitz says in one song "I got high with Jagger, it was pretty cool" or something like that anyway... My favorite of the ones said is Drive-In Saturday! I love hearing that verse!

Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?

Leather Jacket by Mick Taylor

You never keep your fortune, that you made in the south of
France
All your leather jackets and your faded jeans
All you have left of your rock and roll dreams
Put your leather jacket on
Know it's time to be movin' on

Did anyone mention Behind the Wall of Sleep by the Smithereens?

"Well she held a bass guitar and she would play it in a band
And she stood just like Bill Wyman, now I am her biggest fan"

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I can think of 4 at the moment

1] An Australian band in the 90's had a single out called "Everyone Gets Fat Except The Rolling Stones". Have the CD single at home but just cannot think of the band name right now.

2] There was some Canadian or American guy I think again in the 90's? who had a hit single out with the line in it "Bangin' on the drums like Charlie Watts".

3] American Hi Fi's last album has a line about some chick checking her phone answering machine & it says "She has more hits than the Rolling Stones".

4] Australian Guitar Legend Pete Wells from Rose Tattoo has a solo record with a line in it something like "...I am gonna go & hang on down at the f#$%ing Crossroads with Keith Richards..." Would need to play that one again to get the exact wording, but that is pretty close.

5] Just a personal theory, but I suspect "Mr Richards" from REM's latest disc is about Keith, but since Stipe always sings in the most cryptic style of lyrics, I really am only taking a stab & thinking it is about Keith. I am probably way off, but some lines sort of point towards it, but others I can't even work out what Stipe is going on about. But I do love that about his lyrical style.

Chris Rea, "Stainsby Girls"

"But the Stainsby Girls loved the Rolling Stones......."

followed by a snatch of the Honky Tonk Women riff. Excellent song.

Here's one nobody's mentioned:

Paul Simon's 1983 album Hearts and Bones concludes with a song called "The Late Great Johnny Ace" which has a line that goes "It was the year of the Beatles, it was the year of the Stones, it was 1964." The final verse tells the story of how Paul was informed (by a stranger on the street) of John Lennon's murder. The track and the album then ends with with some creepy Phillip Glass weirdness. Paul performed this song at the Simon and Garfunkel concert in Central Park in 1981 and just as he began the verse about Lennon, a guy walked on stage and came right toward Paul saying "I have to talk to you. I have to talk to you" before being dragged off by security. VERY scarey moment!

speaking of simon, i don't think anyone's mentioned these lyrics from his A Simple Desultory Philppic (parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme album):

I've been Rolling Stoned and Beatled till I'm blind

&

I been Mick Jaggered, silver daggered

There's a John Hiatt song wherein he sings about "the kids in the back seat bangin' like Charlie Watts." Can't remember the title.

The Cult's King Contrary Man - an earlier version - mentions The Rolling Stones and I think Messin' Up The Blues does as well.

Dig A Pony
The Beatles

I roll a stoney
Well you can imitate ev'ryone you know
Yes you can imitate ev'ryone you know
I told you so, all I want is you.
Ev'rything has got to be just like you want it to
Because--

Jigsaw Puzzle
The Rolling Stones
(not by name... just self-refernce)

Oh the singer, he looks angry
At being thrown to the lions
And the bass player, he looks nervous
About the girls outside
And the drummer, he's so shattered
Trying to keep up time
And the guitar players look damaged
They've been outcasts all thier lives
