Terrifying

Nether been a fan of SW. But I actually like this tune alot. Sounds like it's been at Goats Head Soupsessions in Jamaica.

The problem is that it's getting a Bob Clearmountain 80's treatment instead of a Jimmy Miller touch...

And a Nicky Hopkins touch would have worked much better than the involvement from Chris Kimsey and Matt Clifford

I'm a big fan. A signature track from a highly underrated album.

I imagine the production ideas listed above might have improved it, but I don't hate the cold, metallic sound of "Steel Wheels" the way a lot of people seem to...

One of the best tracks of a rather week album. But not very commercial. I don't know why it was the 3rd single in Europe. Rain Fall Down is a very close brother.

This is one of the best tunes off SW IMO. Very funky number! smiling smiley

It's magnificent. There was a thread on this not long ago.

Bill is blinding. Ronnie's touches are exquisite.

The pace of the drums is perfect.

Plus all the subtle and lively percussion and trumpet bits.

Far more creative and imaginitive tha RFD.

Did I forget to mention Jagger?

As a GHS skeptic, I don't find that too complementary. Which is unfortunate, 'cuz Terrifying rocks! I've got it blaring on the headphones right now, loving every minute of it. (OK, maybe all of it except for the "horny as a hog" line) It's got a delicious little groove to it, doesn't it?

I always liked that tune, nice guitar riff, great bass work from Bill aswell.

I have always believed that there should have been an instrumental version of this song, maybe on the cd single.

This song is bad, bad, bad. Makes "Struggle" seem like genius.

It has terrible lyrics.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

i like it, one of the more interesting songs on SW! not a typical stones song, but he´s got something for me, though usually i prefer the more rocking songs!

I love this song, especially live. I think it worked great - watch the Atlantic City DVD. Yeah, they can dig that one out again IMO.

Could be another Darryl song, like Stray Cat Blues or Rain Fall Down.

I especially like the 12" version..so there! And for the whole SW-entreprise - I like almost all of side two (excepting Rock and a Hard Place - horror!)+ Terrifying + Mixed Emotions out of side one (we're talking LP's here, boys...the last Stones album I bought as an LP..hence side one and two - in cas you wondered)

'Terrifying' is a gem!

Always loved that track,a sublime groove, some tasty guitar licks & even tastier percussion.

One of the 5 magical tracks on that SW album -- Terrifying/Almost Hear You Sigh/Continental Drift/Break the Spell/Slipping Away. I've always felt those 5 would have graced ANY stones album they appeared on. The rest of the album is hit and miss, some decent songs, but,it's those 5 that are 'Steel Wheels' saving grace.

I hear wise words calling out from Ireland. (except why didn't she say that Mixed Emotions is another GREAT SW song? perhaps my Gaelic isn't up to par . . .)

I like the live version of terryfiying from AC.

have you ever noticed how on the stuido version it kind of sounds like the studio version of Midnight rambler (during the 'don't do that' part) ?
