If this tour is like Voodoo Lounge...

We will probably have he better setlists and shows in Europe like it was11 years ago.
Maybe even some club-gigs and gems like "Tell Me", "Dance Little Sister" and more of "Beast Of Burden".

For the sake of all European Stones fans---let's hope not!!!!!!!!!

If so, maybe we can revisit the "Keith is bored" issue lol.

EUROPEAN STONES FANS--here is my question and I sincerely hope it does not come off as naive, but why is it that (and I am judging from photographs) it seems the vast majority of outdoor shows in Europe take place during the day??

I always wondered about that.

Curfews?

Overall, when the smoke clears I'd say VooDoo Lounge was a better tour...

It's like the "highs" of this tour are higher than VL, but overall this tour is a bit more Uneven, the lows are lower...

And VooDoo Lounge opened with Not Fade Away, the coolest opener the Stones ever had...

They ususally go on stage around 9pm at European shows. It is just a lot brighter in Northern Europe that time of day during the Summer, than for instance in the US.

good question...I am wondering, too.

One reason may be the curfew....but this is just the case from time to time that they have to end till 23.00pm or till 23.30.....

but often they just start one hour to early....most shows in June for example should not start before 22.00 pm.....so they can play till midnight which is possible in most european cities...

but I never understand why, for example the Voodoo Lounge gig from Cologne which took place on June 20th 1995...which is the longest day in the year, started about 20.45....and it was daylight till 22.00 so most of the show took place during daylight which makes lost a lot of the momentum and spectacle....
and there was no curfew in Cologne....so no necessarity to start that soon.

The show just doesnt kick off in daylight as it does in the dark....if it is dark the show is intensive from the very first song...if it is daylight you here many fans saying: The show started at the moment it was getting dark.

They did in better in Duesseldorf which was on June 24th 98 during babylon..

again it was daylight till 22.00 pm...but they did not start till 21.50 pm.

So just the very first songs were playd in halfdaylight....and the atmosphere was top from the beginning.

IMO Stones open air gigs should not start before 22.00 in June....not before 21.30 in July and not before 21.00 in August....

SMU twice? Well, ... why not? It's a nice song! But 18 songs is probably a couple too much, 15 is all we're gonna get ;-)

I remember vaguely they took the stage around 7pm for the 3rd Rotterdam show in 1982, but otherwise they always started between 9 - 10 pm.

Ok, again w/o (hpefully) sounding too naive, it is just that I am interested, if a show in June starts at 9pm, and runs 2 hrs, how much of the show would be performed in daylight?

Again, thanks for bearing with me.

For the Scandinavian shows, it will probably be bright for the first hour or so.

Of all the tours I've been on I thought Voodoo Lounge the worst. Not Fade Away was a tepid opener so the show didn't really take off till the second song. I did about 16 shows and only Mannheim was a classic for me (and the Paris rain show was a bad experience).

well in germany on a normal sunny June day at least half of the show would take place in daylight if they start at 9 pm.....therfor they should not start before 9.30 pm or better not befor 10 pm IMO

If it is just the first couple of songs while the sun is going down it is ok...but not if a massive part of the gig takes place during clear sunlight...as it was on the last Hockenheim show in germany 2003....I was not there personaly but I saw pictures from the performing of "Rock me baby"...which was the 6th or 7th song of the gig and it was still total daylight...Uuuuuuuhhh.
Sunlight is an atmosphere killer for a Rockn Roll show a la Rolling Stones.

I thought The Paris rain show was FANTASTIC!!

It totally added to whole 'Voodoo' feel to the gig, when the Stones came on, thunder & lighning, it was like God was working the lighting system.

It was also great to see them rock on through the Weather. unlike the Black Crowes, when supporting at wembley, buggered off when a bit of a shower passed by.

Top Bollock, for me one of my favourite Stones concerts.

Yeah. As always. The ticket always say that they're on at 20.00 or something. Then they go on at 21.30 instead. But always a groove.

The ticket doesn't say when the Stones begin, but when the opening act begins.

The Bigger Bang is a very...very good tour no doubt about it but if I was judging it against Voo Doo...I'd have to go with Voo Doo. Even though it was in a stadium opposed to an arena, I tended to like it better. The set list was much more varied and they played 25 songs to just 20 on this tour. I thought that "Not Fade Away" was such a cool opening number and they included "It's All Over Now", "Far Away Eyes", "Monkey Man", "Heartbreaker" and "Rocks Off". I hope that they mix it up for you guys on the European tour and play some stuff other than their greatest hits show. I love whatever they play but when I pay the big $$$ I like a few surprises thrown in.

I think the Crows had Hard wired guitars etc. and probably didn't want to risk electrocution !

They were dull that day though!

The Stones where fantastic . Even if they disappeared in smoke during TD !

If this tour is like Voodoo Lounge, which I doubt it will be,they'll play a few club shows with songs like Black Limousine,Shine A Light,Jump On Top Of Me and Richards will put Connection into rotation in all venues.

depends on where they are. Shows in places like Spain for example would tend to kick off later as its so warm during the day

The shows always begin in mid evening, with the Stones being on usually anytime between 8.20 - 9.30 depending on the country

Plus as its summer the evenings are longer anyway - and in Northern Europe it can still be bright until around 11 pm in midsummer (late June)

Some stadiums have curfews due to the noise. Wembley Stadium has had a curfew of 10.30 for many years as well as limit on fireworks - the reason was because about 15 years ago some old lady complained to Brent Council that the fireworks following a show at the stadium frightened her pet parrot so much that it died of a heartattack. Subsequently, the council imposed a limit on the amount and volume of fireworks at the venue. True story.

Not sure if it was actually a Stones gig - it may have been someone else.

I guess that depends on where you got a ticket for. In Horsens it is widely known that they will go on at 20.00, but I bet that they will be on an hour, or so, later. They always do that in Denmark.
