Oh, man, we've lost one of the all-time greats, "Wicked" Wilson Pickett. He was a tremendous soul artist, with so many classic songs. I can still remember "Midnight Hour" being played at just about every high school dance I attended. RIP
He played here in New Brunswick, Canada back in 1968. It was my first 'concert' by someone famous. He was amazing and had a great act with assistants coming out to wipe the sweat off him during various songs.
was thinking it would be cool for Mick to acknowledge the Wicked Pickett tomorrow at MSG somehow - prolly too late to work up a song, but he should at least ad-lib something during the show.
just put on "The Wicked Pickett" and "The Exicting Wilson Pickett" and you'll hear why he is held in such high esteem.........he was one of the elite soul singers of all-time....and check out his earlier band The Falcons...awesome as well

His 'Land of 1000 Dances' used to open 'Ready Steady Go', they knew how good he was even tho few of us knew of him, & lets not forget 'Everbody needs Somebody to Love', Ive got a great version of the Stones on RSG that I'll have to dig up & share
...how about The Stones digging out "If You Need Me" off of "Five By Five", a little number often done live by the band in the 60's, and coincidentally co-written by The Wicked Pickett ?
Yeah, I was thinking about that one... thing is, I think the stones based their arrangement more on solomon burke's version. sb was huge for mick, wp less so, really... for that very reason, though, I'd like to hear them give "Mustang Sally" or "In the Midnight Hour" a try. Wedding bands do it, it can't be too hard to whip up.
I saw him once live, back in 93. It was a three-day music festival and I attended two days. Between the people I saw there were The Kinks, The Animals, Dylan, Robert Plant, John Mayall, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and a few more. But the one who got the whole audience jumping and dancing and cheering like only a fool audience in Spain can jump, dance and cheer was Mr. Pickett himself. Amazing energy and relationship with the people!.
Its real sad ..seems like everybody goes away...we still have..Al Green S.Burke...Bobby Womack...and the Stones...but time is going fast now!!!So tonight I will drink andd toast for Wilson.
