So then does this must mean that DVDs will also be phased out eventually as well ?

I think that some CD remasters sound better than the lp and some lps sound better than the "remastered" CD.

In the case of MP3s, THEY ALL SOUND INFERIOR TO CDs !!

Could it be true that people don't care about sound quality anymore ?

That makes me sad.

I don't think that CDs will be phased out anytime soon.

These damn kids today !

I feel so old already.

What about what the bands want though? I realize times are changing, but would a current rock band, or even future rock bands, really want their songs to only be distributed through files and not in album format? I think it's fine as is, with the multiple formats available although I know time will change that. But I mean, if there's a kid out there idolizing a band and he forms his own band, I think he wants to be able to have an actual album out. I know alot of it comes down to what the labels decide upon, but the labels need the bands before they can do anything.

It's not a technology issue, it's a marketing issue.

How does a label find a new band in the new era. how to make it famous and how to make money out of it.

Hi guys & girls

I bet that within 2 years, new cars will be featuring Players that will not accept CDs but rather Memory-like cards that will be inserted and will play whatever you have downloaded into it.

The new SClass from Mercedes-Benz has the capability of accepting a flash card so you can play your music.

You don't understand that 2 years is too short a time to phase anything in. 2008 models are already off the drawing board!!

Also, what % of the population is using ONLY MP3? It is not high enough to not have a CD player as well.

So lets say a new band is formed in the next 5 to 10 years. Would they be cutting tracks in an album format or record songs at random that go straight to mp3

let's not get hung up on mp3 as a format either. the deal is that ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION via the 'net is the wave that will make CD's a thing of the past. technology improvements will enable lossless and portability to go hand-in-hand.

There will always be albums, whatever the medium. Just as it was with the 45, you had to buy the LP if you wanted all the songs, the same is and will be true with CDs (and whatever replaces them) and MP3s. The record industry will always find a way to package music so that you just cant pick and choose whatever you want...that is how they make the real money!!
