I agree this part is quite similar:

And you can't get away from it all

Keiths guitar on Rollin Stone Blues sounds more awesome than possible.

My first thought as well. And it’s cool to have Mick doing harp fills.

Ah so many vinyl versions, cover versions, CD, cassette etc. Collector's nightmare. But nothing on the old Minidisc? grinning smiley

8-track coming, then???

I’m steering away from this interview with all the tracks played in full (or in large chunks?). I want something fresh in a few days! But all the reviews online and from you guys are making it hard. It sounds like it’s going to live up to much of the hype. I hope so.

I love Steve Jordan, but goddamn do I miss Charlie’s swing when I hear Mess It Up. I was so used to Really Want to Tell the Truth that it was a little weird to hear Mess It Up at first, but I like it a lot. I would be okay if Mick wanted to replace Miss You with it.

Get Close, Dreamy Skies and Rolling Stone Blues are probably my favorites, but everything on the album is great. Not a skippable song in the bunch.

DIAMOND MINDS II (with working link!?!)

My Arts Desk review of Hackney Diamonds went up in the middle of the night - here's the link; includes a track by track run-down, too. Brilliant album. It's just like itself, really, but it's also a peak Stones record I reckon!

Great and very well written review! Thanks for sharing! I agree 100% with you.

And the clip indicates it's now 'Really wanna hear the truth' - maybe 'Tell' comes in somewhere on the full version.

It's a brilliant album, very enjoyable and eclectic. Exactly what i expected!
Without any unnecessary comparisons with the past!

Mess It Up is awesome, so great to hear Charlie in fine form. Wish he was playing on all songs.

Live By The Sword has that classic Charlie/Bill swing, would've fitted perfectly on Steel Wheels instead of Break The Spell.

Whole Wide World is maybe a bit too radio friendly for my taste.

Hasn't been released yet. People are grading the songs based on the Planet Rock radio show.

So it sounds like they had some kind of rehearsals of the new songs the week after the Hackney Empire press conference? (Or at least they had planned to do that)

These are impressions after having the stream for a week. It's a brilliant album, and brilliant on its own terms, it's no throwback.

So many of the songs have such great hooks, and are really singable and stick around in your head. And they relate to things we can all intimately relate to - why you angry, don' shout at me! God I need to get away, why did you leave, I just wanted to get close....
The chorus of Close to You, at first, reminded me a bit of Peter Perrett's vocal style with The Only Ones.
Though it may grow on me, Mess it Up is the one I'd skip, but again, there's good stuff there, and I like the false start - that lo-fi tape snippet before the full sound. It's a tactic used mainly by Mark E Smith and The Fall. And then that Pistols-sy Bite My Head Off. Maybe they have been listneing to some classics of British punk and New Wave.

I hope they will perform in person only as long as possible :-)
I can understand, that at some point in the future some artificial "treatment," of their songs/show may be possible and even watchable, but it will never ever get any close to seeing and hearing them live and on records.
But I think they know that.

The first impressions. That could be completely different next week. I'm not a fan of Keith's singing, but his guitar work is fantastic. But for me the entire album is a 10. It's almost rare for an album to be so completely good. 80 year old artists, I'm not going to compare it to anything. Just enjoy their magic. But as a 76 year old, this takes me back to the early 60s, spontaneous and feeling live, addictive. When my wife is not at home, I dance to it.

Maybe that's why Steve was in London after the album announcement...

Yes, although quite a few writers on the major publications must have had them well before, as reviews were already out before I had had a chance to hear anything. I've played it loads, on my old but good Sony cans.
