The situation with CD1 is a bit more complex. It seems that they utilized 2016 mono versions for many tracks. I am not sure about stereo, need to dig a bit more. It is quite possible they used versions that were prepared for 50th anniversary editions of TMSR, BB, LIB and related singles.

It's been quite a long while since I last listened to 40 Licks, though I do recollect that it contained a quite nice stereo-mix of It's All Over Now. I no-longer have this compilation in my current collection, and the only version of this song I normally listen to now, is the mono-mix from the Singles Collection. I don't recall whether the 1980's CD of 12x5 features the track in mono or stereo.

No, both ABKCO and London (West German) CDs 12x5 from early/mid 80's are all mono.
However, It's All Over Now is in stereo on 12x5 SACD-hibryd CD from 2002. Also it is present on:
More Hot Rocks 1 [London 820 515-2], West Germany and [London P25L 25049] or [London POCD 1929], Japan
Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass), UK version. [London P33L 25016], [London P25L 25039] and [London POCD 1919], Japan only.

Very insightful, ironbelly!

I think the stereo-mix is great, personally. You can really hear Brian's guitar.

Don't know if this helps, but on Apple music I read

Street Fighting Man - 50th Anniversary Edition / Remastered 2018
Shelter - Nothing
Satisfaction - Mono Version
Last Time - Mono Version
JJF - Mono Version
You Can't - Nothing
19th / Thumb / Fade Away / Shadow - Mono Version
Devil / Mother's Little Helper - Nothing
Rainbow - full version with intro
Cloud - Mono Version
Horses / Ruby / Paint it Black - Nothing
HTW - Mono Version
It's All Over Now - Mono Version (although it sounds if it is the stereo version)
Night Together - Nothing

The point is that it is hard to compare tracks in HD with tracks in 44kHz/16bit CDDA format using audacity or similar software. It is necessary to put everything on the same page. Or to trust your ears winking smiley.

And they mess the things up in description (as usual). See detailed post below.

12. Mother's Little Helper (Mono Version 2016) (2:48)

My god, all this for a rehashed Greatest Hits package. Nothing new except some tweaks around the edges.

With the lack of an actual new album, anything from the Stones seems to appease some fans at this point - even the silly lyric videos of tunes from the distant past.
As for the 40 Licks? It was a fun theme for the 40 Licks tour, and gave them reason to tour, but otherwise didn't really offer much other than several new bland/mediocre tunes.
That being said, Losing My Touch is a genuinely classic Keith/Stones tune ...one for the ages imo...deep, and thought provoking. Hope for another one of this quality some day - whether solo or with the Stones.

Was the 'early-fade' edit of Paint it, Black only initially released on the U.S. Aftermath, or the London single, also? The DECCA single clocks-in at around 3.44

The digital release from 26-Jul-2023 has an mastering issue with 'Losing My Touch' (Track 20 / Disc 2) - there're dropouts at positions 4m:38s, 4m:40s, 4m:47s. It's e.g. on [open.Spotify.com] and Qobuz.

You can hear these dropouts also on [www.YouTube.com] .

Went to Coventry today and got my copy of Licks on Vinyl.

Been a long time coming, have wanted this in my collection since its original release.

Got it on the stereo now. Happy Days

Looking forward to finally hear the new tracks on vinyl at last, over twenty years later.

The '2023 Remaster' of Losing My Touch has some really obvious audio drop outs at 4:38 and 4:40.
Didn't someone listen to it before they put it out?

Edit: Was already posted by Irix above.

The Qobuz customer support says regarding the dropouts: "I reported the album to the product team. The team will ask the label for a fixed recording."

Don't worry, there won't be enough demand for a 21st year anniversary of a 40th Anniversary career retrospective. If you have the patience Black Friday or post Christmas will be the timing on this.
