I listened to Olympia '67 the other day. Terrible sound, but interesting. Hope they clean that up with modern technology. Keith's guitar playing is very nice, but distant on the tape.

It's interesting that for many years we were told that no good enough recordings of El Mocambo existed or had survived to allow a full commercial release ...

...but what we now have sounds pretty good .

Digital restoration techniques may have come on a long way in recent years...

...but I suspect it's often more the case that we're told little fibs about what exists and what doesn't grinning smiley

I only know of a comment from engineer Eddie Kramer that the recording of the first show failed due to static issues, and that he was really nervous about recording the second show.

Thanks Mathijs,

In that case then...Mr Kramer needn't have been nervous smiling smiley

I always wonder how people can say they were at a 'bad' 1975 or 1978 show, and then say the 1994 or 2002 or 2014 show was excellent.

Any 1975 or 1978 show is about 100 times better than any show after 1990. There simply is no contest.

Mathijs

Totally agree.
Cleveland '75 and Cleveland '78 were absolutely fantastic shows.
I was on the rail for both, what a blast.

We must’ve been close in ‘78.

Worried About You, Melody and Luxury are from the first show. There is a slight inferior quality to those recordings, imo (+ that the guitars are a wee bit out of tune winking smiley )

And Keith's guitar is out of phase, making it sound thin and trebly, with that cocked wha sound....

Since when has been "a wee bit out of tune" been an issue with this band ? grinning smiley
