Quiz:

1. What was the name of Brians first cat?
2. What did Mick Jaggers mum have to say about Mick in the 70s in a famous article?
3. What was the European tour in 1976 called?
4. What songs did Ry Cooder play on?
5. What is the name of the great guitarist Stones hired in the 70s?

Brians cats name sounds a bit like the name of the band.

I think I know 4. Without cheating, No Expectations and Sister Morphine. Was there more?

5. The great guitarist? Kind of vague . . . Clapton on Brown Sugar? Wayne Perkins on the B&B sessions?

Kinda vague cause it has to be. My choice would be Wayne Perkins. Clue: Its not Ronnie.

so the question is actually "which of the guitarists that the Stones 'hired' [whatever that means!] in the 70s does LA FORUM have in mind?"

Didn't Ry Cooder play mandoline on Love In Vain, BTW?

Have to check the liner notes, but "Time Is On Our Side" website lists Ry Cooder playing mandoline on LIV, though.

yep - I think it is Ry Cooder on LIV.

He also plays on Memo from Turner.

Wasn't Ron Wood the great guitarist the band "hired" in the 70's ??? smiling smiley

Ry Cooder plays on Jamming With Edward......does that count?

I wonder what "hired" means. Wayne Perkins, Harvey Mandel, Ron Wood, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck (if he was paid), Ry Cooder were all hired at one time.

I thought Ry Cooder played Mandolin on Factory Girl.

And I thought the Stones hired someone at the end of the 70's - Jeff Beck - to act as a stand-in in case Keith had problems with the law.

I think that is Rick Grech on FG. RC plays on LIV, MFT (one version) and Sister Morphine. Also the Edward album.

I always believed that Dave Mason played mandolin on Factory Girl.

Maybe he played guitar or something on Prodigal Son or something like that.

Ry Cooder played both on Love in Vain and Sister Morphine. He also claimed he wrote the intro of Honky Tonk Woman and Keith stole it from him.

>> He also claimed he wrote the intro of Honky Tonk Woman <<

so was Ry there for Track 15 from the Satanic Sessions?
anyway i think it was indeed Dave Mason on mandolin on Factory Girl;
and i too would like to know what "hired" means.

"What do you want - what?!"

I don't know many, but here's my shot.

1. What was the name of Brians first cat?

No idea...

2. What did Mick Jaggers mum have to say about Mick in the 70s in a famous article?

Also no idea!
3. What was the European tour in 1976 called?

Shame on me, no idea again...

4. What songs did Ry Cooder play on?

Sister Morphine was one. Also on Love In Vain. I'm not sure but was he perhaps on You Got The Silver?

5. What is the name of the great guitarist Stones hired in the 70s?
Ronnie Wood. You've got me a trick question there, but Mick Taylor was hired in 1969!

According to Martin Elliot's book, RC played on Prodigal Song, Love in Vain and Sister Morphine.
Both Harvey Mandel and Wayne Perkins played on several tracks on Black & Blue.
