The varying styles of Mick's barnet is, admittedly, not something I've generally given much thought to over the years, admittedly. Though, I do feel it was a little on the long-ish side during the Voodoo Lounge tour; and now? Well, it's not getting any better. Still, he has better hair than Paul McCartney. That'd be of consolation to him, surely? winking smiley

His hair was actually pretty good for the very early shows of 89. See Toronto footage.

But somewhere along the way shortly after, he went even shorter, and his hair just looked horrible. See Rock and a Hard Place video.

His long hair in 1975-76, 1981, 1986 and 1994 are all quite similar, with 1986 obviously the longest he ever had it it seems. Although wasn't it quite long in 1969 before the tour?

This haircut and Micks choreography on the tour ruined the Stones concert experience for me. Mick thought he would look stupid if he was chewing gum and having the coke wiggle in his legs, which is how was just one year earlier on he solo tour. If we had gotten that Mick in 89/90 I believe the shows would have 1000 times better. This whole tour was a product and response to the 80's MTV pressure to prove they were relevant at that age. They also abandoned the live show versions of many songs and played them closer to the studio version which also took away from that past stones concert experience.

thumbs up I'd maybe not go so far as ruined...but I certainly echo the sentiment

<They also abandoned the live show versions of many songs and played them closer to the studio version which also took away from that past stones concert experience>

I'm a bit ambivalent to this, as it really served some of the songs – even some of their very best songs, imo.

Some of the «road versions» went too far away from the studio versions. And, let's face it, the Stones didn't really manage to make the songs sound like the studio versions. They never did smiling smiley

i think longest hair: 1968 -> 1969 -> 1986 -> 1976 -> 1975 -> 1981

Put in 94 instead of 81

He would look like Santa Claus if he tried to do that now.

They've had moments of playing something completely different, excellently, from the studio version: Jumping' Jack Flash, SFTD and Live With Me in 1969, Honky Tonk Women in 1975-76, Under My Thumb in 1981-82 and Start Me Up 1989-90.

Under My Thumb was probably the greatest overhaul of their songs.
