Longer than the 4m:07s studio version? Never heard of. But there're longer live versions - [dbboots.com] .

Re: Ghost Town, there're 28 live versions of it by the Stones, but maybe the one by Starf*cker in Berlin is even longer! You never know. [www.setlist.fm]

Too bad they didn't play it at Re:mise.

Great song! Wish Hackney Diamonds was more in this vein and Sweet Sounds of Heaven. Great groove, menacing, and tinged with low key ska.

Hi did that ever get resolved/settled perhaps? It was good live but they stopped playing it.
Thanks.

Copyright lawsuit in March 2023 by Spanish musician Sergio Garcia Fernandez (stage name Angelslang) over ‘Living in a Ghost Town’ - [iorr.org] - but it was the wrong court: [iorr.org] , [Billboard.com] .

"Spanish musician cannot sue Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in Louisiana, (Aug 9, 2024)" - [VitalLaw.com] , [DigitalMusicNews.com] . Court document filed on 8-Aug-2024: [www.ca5.USCourts.gov] - (PDF).

Sounds nothing like Ghost Town to me. I guess they would have lost the law suit even if it had been admissible.
Rather sounds like a band who are trying to sound Stones-style (which is not in itself bad).

The only grounds for a law suit is that each song is as bad as the other...

Of course. It is similar. But it's way off at the same time. Keith was on edge about Start Me Up sounding like someone - if this crap song was presented to him in any way he either did a fantastic job if lifting it or he never heard it.

How many times can one write in A minor? All of them. Angie, Miss You... on and on.

It's bland. The singer is horrendous. The structure is a bit wonky. There's some obvious posing going on. It's like they took Sister Morphine (same key), crossed it with Fingerprint File, and sped it up while not speeding up.

The singer should be embarrassed.

Apparently Patrick Alley didn't know who Mick Jagger was.

Lawsuit aside, there's zero similarities in the songs with the exception of, as Mick pointed out, seven words.

All About You - Keith was a little curious as to if he wrote it within himself.

That song was hanging around for 3 years. After researching to make sure it wasn't somebody else who wrote it, I finally decided that it must have been me. But... I am proud of it.
- Keith Richards, 1980-81

[timeisonourside.com]

His quip about Start Me Up was all in his head.

Anybody Seen My Baby... oddly there's nothing about the K.D. Lang moment on timeisonourside. Unless it's hiding somewhere not obvious.

Keith Richards shed light on the situation in his 2010 autobiography, Life:

“The writers’ credits under ‘Anybody Seen My Baby?’ include k.d. lang and a co-writer (Ben Mink). My daughter Angela and her friend were at Redlands, and I was playing the record, and they start singing this totally different song over it. They were hearing k.d. lang’s “Constant Craving.” It was Angela and her friend that copped it. And the record was about to come out in a week. Oh s–t, he’s lifted another one. I don’t think he’s ever done it deliberately; he’s just a sponge. So I had to call up … all of the heavy-duty lawyers, and I said, ‘Have this checked out right now. Otherwise, we’re going to be sued.’ And within 24 hours, I got a phone call: ‘You’re right.’ We had to include k.d. lang in the writing credits.”

reading the quote about asmb from life

if babylon was a week from release then it would figure that they already had a ton of the cds already maufactured and ready to sell with the jagger/richards composer credit on them

what happened to those cds did some of them make it out or were they all destroyed?

That's very interesting. Because that would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, right?

I'm going to figure Keith is exaggerating a bit there, like he does at times, because I find it unlikely no one else figured it out it's so obvious. Once they finished the song someone must've noticed, which is months before the release of the single and LP.

Highly doubtful that Keith figured it out. It's something for him to admit such a thing, his position about Mick hearing A and saying "Hey listen to what I came up with" kind of thing like he's talked about, which is totally believable but... the timing is way off.

To Keith, a week or two weeks is probably two or three months. There's a lot of time between finishing the sessions and post-production. At least in 1997. Since then that time has shrunk.

As Treacle loves, if you live by the sword...

Wasn't it Keith Richards who said that "the best song writers are those with the largest record collection" ?

The other day someone showed a part of Chuck Berry's song "You can't catch me" and compared it with a part of "Come together", written by John Lennon (okay, L/M). Interesting cool smiley

The CDs itself were probably not destroyed since they don't have songwriter credits on them. I've bought the B2B album in 1997 on release day as CD (made in the Netherlands by EMI Uden). The only mention of k.d. lang is in the booklet (above the lyrics and in the general credits). Maybe just the booklet was re-printed and it could be the same for the inlay of the CD single.

I don’t hear how those two songs sound similar enough to give her a writers credit. There are thousands of songs that sound similar Heartbreak Hotel and Yer Blues is one. It’s Only Rock n’ Roll sounds more like Bang the Gong than Anybody sounds like Constant Craving.Maybe they ought to retroactively give Marc Bolans estate a writer’s credit

It's a matter of duration, a number of bars or measures, with a combination of notes and melody being interchangeable. The first part of the chorus is exactly the same as Constant Craving.

Question on Living in a Ghost Town

When I play my CD single, it plays "Living in a Ghost Town" but displays the title as "Jar of Hearts" and the artist as "Christina Perri". Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any explanations welcome

Any explanations welcome

If your player supports the CD-Text feature, the text data could be faulty. But there's nothing to find on the internet about such an error.

If your player is connected via network to the internet, it could mistakenly use an incorrect entry from an online CD database.

This is a local connection with 2 different CD players. I don't see this with any other CDs

Other than at Hyde Park in 2022, I don’t think I’ve listened to the single since 2020, after downloading it. I didn’t particularly like the song then, and I certainly wouldn’t purposely listen to it, today.
