Keith's set-Piano?!
Posted by: chrism13 ()

It would be great to hear Keith play/ piano and sing one of his two songs on piano. I personally really enjoy his piano playing and would love to hear something like apartment #9 or sing me back home. Then Happy or BTTMMR on guitar!

That would have been fine for a club-show between 1995 and 2003 but in 2019 in a stadium...

Where can we hear him play piano? The stuff with Chuck during HTW don't count.

I know he played piano on the Barbarians tour, does he play much on stones songs?

As I recall they already had some pretty good piano players in the studio (Stu, Nicky Hopkins).

I did see him live in Miami playing piano during HTW and mentioned that to him when I bumped into him at restaurant in CT a short while later. I think he could make it work in a stadium. Make it a nice moment of the show-counter some fast paces #'s,

Pretty cool, did not know Keith played keys with the Barbarians thumbs up

Sue in Spain

My coat is torn and frayed, it's seen much better days, but as long as the guitar plays ....

Another difficulty would be to travel on the road with a real piano... while letting Chuck keep on playing on his Chinese 29$ cheapo keyboards set on "Steinway sound" settings..? grinning smiley

That would make no sense. Or you'd have to let Chuck use the real piano for the whole show (he must dream of that). He'd join Jagger backstage for the Keef "b&w" solo number(s).

In "Under the Influence" on Netflix he plays a snippet of Memory Motel and sings. He also plays "Sing Me Back Home".

People really come up with unrealistic ideas. Why don’t you have Ronnie play drums on a few numbers or Don Was play bass

I'm sure that in every place they play an upright piano could easily be rented if they wished so. Renting out (and delivering, tuning) pianos for performances is a regular business and the Stones' budget would certainly allow for it (and Keith quite likely needs no Steinway D-274 grand piano).

They will have their reasons why they don't do it.

In the Under The Influence Netflix docu he’s doing a lovely rendition of Sing Me Back Home. I’d love for them to do a club show (a REAL club show - Like a Horseshoe Tavern type) where they could do some covers like that.

Imho it's because the only guy who plays "piano" onstage (Chuck) is considered a "non-essential" band member therefore nobody cares if he plays the real thing or an ersatz.
You're right about renting : if Keef felt the need, they would rent a beauty locally for each gig.

I think the reason is simple, the piano in one stadium loses all its charm, in the music of the Stones the piano is a secondary instrument. Unlike the situation in small venues, at Paradiso in Amsterdam in 95 for example, Chuck played the grand piano.

Transporting a real piano around with them would not be a problem with a tour operation of this scale. They don't believe it's necessary.

Or Ronnie play keyboards!

Oh yeah, I saw him do that at Roseland on "You Don't Have To Mean It"!

Grand Piano on B stage!!

Ok I'll admit that is a bit far fetched!

Ha, they could do it Floyd-style, like have in come down from out of the dark above onto the stage, and at the end let it go up in flames, or have it grow wings and let it fly off ... would be a cool gag!
