John Phillips album Pay Pack & Follow - with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards

I know it gets raised every couple of years here, but I also know BV doesn't like old threads being resurrected, so...

Just listening to this for the first time in about 20 years. Mid morning in mid-Mexico, time to casualise my mind and do some deep house cleaning.

A great soundtrack - Oh Virgina (Dead Flowers redux) has great soaring guitars, and the ragged harmonies are a treat throughout.

Who else digs this album?

IORR Editor addition:

Pay Pack & Follow is an album by American musician John Phillips, released in April 2001 following his death a month earlier.[1] It was recorded in the 1970s for release on The Rolling Stones' record label "Rolling Stones Records" but remained unissued until 2001.[2] Mick Jagger appears on backing vocals and co-production, Keith Richards on guitar and co-production, former Stone Mick Taylor also on guitar and current Stone Ron Wood on bass guitar.[3]

The title is taken from a famous telegram of Sir Richard Francis Burton.

always liked She's Just 14; figured it was an odd "tribute" to his daughter, but then it got weird(er) when her allegations came out.

Mr. Blue and Pussycat also. You Gotta Move at the end of Pussycat was a nice surprise and still enjoyable....thumbs up

Always dug 'Zulu Warrior' (dumb lyrics included) and 'Wilderness of Love' too. Man, listening to this takes me straight back to a small, smokey terraced house in early 2000s Bath, England

I almost pulled this out yesterday. It's been some time, but going from memory, it has a great mid-70s vibe. I think it was recorded around the same time as Black and Blue and has some similar guitar sounds on it.

I really love this album; the gritty version 'Pay, Pack & Follow', vs the later "Pussycat', which includes outtakes from soundtrack.
I'm glad it was released kind of under the radar, w/o much fanfare. Had it been put out today, expectations would have been insane.
As good as the songs are, the fantastic shaky production, and performances, I can never disassociate this album from the few accompany photos. They show the real side of hard drug life.

Six tracks first released on bootleg Half Stoned. Great front cover of John Phillips w an afro.

Love this record. It's like sides 3 and 4 of Black and Blue.

It’s a cult album, very underrated. Too bad he got dragged down in the dark lifestyle, he couldn’t keep up with Keith (who could?). And their seems to be very dark things happening surrounding his daughter, even Mick’s guilty there.

great back ups and verse by jagger.

looks like phillips and keith are on a bed with bags of drugs around them and a cat..

By all accounts She's Just 14 is about Mick having sex with Mackenzie Phillips when she was just 14!!!! Maybe Bill was inspired by this?

It could be even worse than that, when we think of what John did...

That is one ugly story. Yikes.

That's why sometimes it's far better to strictly stick to the rule of only delving into the professional lives of the band members.

It is just a song: don't listen to it if it is offensive to you. Artists play with fire when they create.

Obviously I'd agree;
but the key-words in this story mostly are "(…) she claims (…) she says (…) she writes (…) in her new bombshell tell-all ‘High on Arrival’.”

And, besides that, "...New York night in the late 1970s..." has some tell-tale value as well, imo.

“I’ve been waiting for this since you were 10 years old...”

Sounds like a line straight out of Stray Cat Blues.....

i've also heard her say he said 12 before

at this point i don't believe he said anything like that at all

one can say a lot about mick and underage girls (and most rock stars and celebrities from this era) but even he has standards and limits

so much around this story is so over the top that i have trouble believing much of it

except that he slept with her when she was between 16 and 18
