Memo FromTurner. Who's that 2nd slide from 2:30 and onwards?

Memo from Turner.

The solo is by Russ Titelman. No slide, just bending strings etc.

Thanks, I get away with it. grinning smiley

The photos taken at that show are just so gorgeous. I have one on the wall next to my computer at work.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

so you plan to not have a plan. that's like having a plan.

Ok, we're hijacking this thread. Did anyone like the listen to the link I posted above? I'm curious what guitar players thought of it, seeing as I'm not one. I dig it tho.

what year is that pic from? He looks older than he did in the '69 pictures and it's not the same jacket although it looks really similar.

er?.....Guys

Ry Cooder plays on many tracks 68/69/70...one of the greatest slide guitar players of all time, can't believe nobody mentioned him

..did he also teach Keith the open G stuff

...imagine a world without Keiths open G songs!

mick wrote brown sugar riff in open g.
that's one of the few bill didn't write for him.
but really true; and he wrote it on electric guitar in open tuning...
...
that one's totally his riff as a writer; he built the song around it I think...
...and the remarkable thing about their twin-ship too;
i won't pit one against the other; mick's a songwriter guitarist obviously; bug that's a mighty significant riff and one of the most amazing studio tracks ever imo.

Many tracks? SM and LIV + the Jamming With Edward-stuff.

The rest were rehearsals, no?

Very rudimentary, but importantly he got the guitar/amp tone and feel right so the parts on Monkey Man for example serve the song very well

Johnny Winter was a fantastic slide player. Duane was the king. Brian's slide playing is what kicked it all off. His playing was from another world.

There's a leap from rudimentary to serving the song, imo.

Love In Vain may have simple slide playing, but yet it's a classic slide take. Even Taylor uses some of the phrases on Ya Yas.

Too right there is !

Playing is not the biggest part of talent...

...knowing what to play is.

Yes, liked it and he nails it as usual. good ear, good taste, good playing.
he's also still active on his newer channel

I’ve never heard much discussion here or anywhere else about Keith Richards’s slide playing. People praise Mick Taylor’s abilities on slide, and sometimes, Ronnie Wood’s. But, honestly, Keith’s slide that fills in most of the gaps with no vocals on the Let It Bleed album are my personal favorite slide guitar parts I’ve ever heard. Yet, he rarely played slide again after that album. Midnight Rambler, Let It Bleed, Love in Vain, You Got The Silver.. just sublime. Am I the only one who’s noticed?

His ultimate slide playing is on his guitar symphony composition, Monkey Man.

sounds like you're familiar with the guy. I listen to a lot of his stuff. One of my favorites is his take on Waterloo by Abba. It rocks surprisingly. I do love that Abba song in general I will admit ;-)

Thanks open-g!

I love this video. It's a guitar player on YT playing Jigsaw Puzzle.

His theory is that Keith is learning to play slide during the BB sessions, but he's playing slide in him own original way.

Worth a listen IMHO.

James James aka Privettricker is THE guy to go to when it comes to playing Stones right. I check his vids weekly. Been a fan of his for a long time.

I'm in good company then! I listen to him fairly often too.

I didn't know he was slightly famous or anything. I just stumbled upon him one day.
